I've got the transmission off the h23 engine and the bell housing off, but I can't get the gears out, it acts like the main gear that moves the axles is in the of pulling everything else out but i don't know how to putt these all put.

If you've got the cases split and the gear stacks are stuck in the engin e side case then you only have to remove the 2 screws on the reverse cog (#8 in the pic) and the entire gear/fork assembly should come out. There could be some corrosion on the input shaft that'll hang up on the inner shaft seal but it should be easy enough to slide it all apart.

Well let me get home and I'll take some pictures of what I got, it's probably something simple but it's my first time trying this.

Okay if you can see the picture this is what I'm looking at and I have no clue how to get any of that out to replace syncros and gears.

FFS.

on the end of the counter shaft there's a plug.

Remove the plug.

Inside there's a big snap ring holding the entire assembly in there.

Use pliers to expand the snap ring and the guts will fall out.

From here on out I strongly suggest you get a Helm Factory service manual. It's 2000 pages of very specific data/procedure on how to work on your car. They can be downloaded for free.

I would also be concerned with the reverse gear idler/shifter arm as you disassembled it out of order and I think you probably forced something apart when it was reluctant...

okay another dumb question how to I get that snap ring loose, and I see what you're talking about now on the reverse shifter, I didn't break anything or force anything out that was a huge problem I had but I managed to get a wrench inside the transmission and take that arm loose before ripping it apart.

The case is already open so you dont need to worry about the snap ring anymore. Take about four more sideview pics so we can see whats going on or make a vid.

After removing the 2 bolts that hold the reverse idler the shafts should come right out.

Also the differential lifts right out.

okay I haven't taken any pictures yet but the snap ring ended up coming out anyway thanks to a friend screwing around, and now the gears all tried to fall out but became wedged on what I presume is the differential (giant gear with 10 bolts that turns the axel?) anyway I took the 10 bolts off of that only to discover that with the differential out of the way, the plate it bolts to is now in the way. Is there anyway to get that entire assembly off???

Not really sure how to help now that you have pulled stuff apart in the wrong order, but go on youtube and watch the tutorials on rebuilding an H series transmission that I believe syncrotech did. That will give you a good view on how the process is "supposed" to go, and you can hopefully work through it with that help.

lol I can see what happened now. You somehow managed to pull the bottom half of the case off instead of the top half.

There are a couple howto's for how to open it up on youtube. Search for "d series take apart" or something like that.

I have a feeling you broke something but without pics i can't confirm.

Definitely came apart in the wrong order.. there shouldn't be anything holding the differential in at this point..

Okay I finally got the gears out, I would've been able to take pictures you guys would've seen the silver cylinder that the axel plugs into was still connected to the differential and I didn't know how to get that off, but when it came off everything else finally just feel down. Thanks for the help maybe I can put it back together in the right order now that I see how it was supposed to come out!

If you woulda took the top half off instead of the bottom half, you would not have needed to do anything with the differential except lift it out.

You really need to see a proper way to open up the case to be able to see how you will need to reinstall it.

You need to look up that youtube video on opening up a d series tranny. Its a vietnamese guy. It will make it really easy for you.

Harbor Freight has a press for super cheap, they'll come off the shafts very easily compared to other pressed parts like wheel bearings.

These 2 pages from the service manual are all you really need since opening the case is pretty simple.
