I need my drivers side axle replaced and recently picked up an axle, how much do you think a shop would charge to replace the axle? don't want to get screwed.

when i had my axle replaced they charged me give or take some around 150 for the parts and labor and i was quoted i could buy the axle from a local parts dealer for about 60 bux so i got jipped but you can do the math


go to a good shop b/c mine turned into a 3 month long ordeal they ended up replacing both and then said the axles where "defective" from the factory so had to replace again to find same thing still were fucked up and had to replace again, again quoting "defective" from factory.....

Too damn much. Just do it yourself if you have the time and space, and you can buy whatever tools you need a probably still end up spending less.

I just had to pay £500 (about $900) to have an axle reconditioned because they couldn't find an inner CV joint that fits - also it doesn't seem to have the axles on it it should have - there's no intermediate shaft, despite Honda taking my chassis number and insisting it DOES have an intermediate shaft (I had to physically shove the guy's head under the car to prove it to him!)

You spams don't know how lucky you are, paying peanuts for all things automotive!

900 for an axle job? good lord. you could buy all the tools you need and the parts for $300, even at inflated UK prices!

as far as the shop time for an axle change, shouldn't be more than 30 mins to an hour. If i can get an axle out in 45 mins without a lift, it should take a shop much less time.

ok, cool. well I will have to shop around.

I don't have the time as I work almost 9-12 hrs a day or the space as I live in an apartment and they do not let me do anything.

Do it yourself. It only takes about an hour to do if you have all the parts and tools lying around, or just go rent tools

An hour's time w/ joe-schmoe garage/tools.

Around $160ish for a shop is what'd I'd pay if I let anyone else work on my car.

I had both of my front axles replaced (parts, labor...etc..) ALL for 200 dollars! Looks like I got a GREAT deal. Which is why I didnt do it myself!
