How hot does your valve cover get?
After normal/lightly spirited driving I can't even touch my valve cover, it gets that hot; and it takes a loong time to cool down. When I had my 92 w/ the h23, it never seemed to get this way.Any of you experiencing this as well, or is something wrong? My coolant temp is always slightly below half-way.

Mine gets ridiculously hot, but then again, so does my entire engine bay... I am surprised that you were surprised by this
Open your hood and let it cool for a while. It's better not add cold oil or unscrew anything while the engine is burning hot.
I will admit though, things aren't nearly as hot on the civic.

do you have the heat shield still on the header?
I know once I took mine off temp went way up. But I have an h23 so it's still probably cooler than yours.

yeah mines hot. i have an infrared pyrometer. maybe next time i should use it
i have to add my monthly oil intake (normal stuff for h22) and i like to do it at the gas station. and the mugen oil cap is freaking hot and leaning over pouring the oil is also hot.

If you need to work on the car, pop the hood and get a nice box fan on full blast and sit it on the radiator support and aim it in. Or just wait 3 hrs.

i have a 93 vtec and it can get pretty hot since it is in the engine bay and is metal, keep in mind, but like dude said just make sure your oil is changed every 3k and check your oil level every week and it should be fine... no worries
high-revving engines will heat up a good amount
