help bypass immobilizer
has anyone accomplished this? the immobilizer chip was taken out of my ecu but the immobilizer system is still in my car so it still won't start without the programmed key. has anyone taken out the immobilizer control unit (black box under the steering) completely with good results? somebody told me that the audio shop has a harness for the ignition that will bypass that part of the immobilizer but i thought the ignition had nothing to do with the immobilizer except sending an RF signal to the immobilizer control unit. should i try this out? need expert opinions.

Re: help bypass immobilizer (joblow)
You can use what they told you. Circuit City can get 3 different options you can use, a 555U, a 555H, and an AST unit (HONDA3). The 555H and the AST units you program so they don't need the key (The AST retains this in memory while I think the 555H learns it every time you start the car, so the AST unit would be best). Then 555U is universal, and you have to put a programmed key into the box. Also, the 555H and AST units tag into the datawire, the 555U you have to put a loop around the ignition cylinder.

You can get a T5 key programed with just the VIN number on the ecu at some dealers. You just have to prove that you own the car/ecu in the car.

Re: help bypass immobilizer (SuperSH)
SuperSH - do you know which one that does the t5? maybe a phone number or something. i called around in my area and none of them have the ability to do that. they all require the red key in order for them to program the t5's. let me know.. i'm willing to travel quite a bit to get this thing. thanks.

Re: help bypass immobilizer (Boosted97Lude)
he can't... well atleast not according to the shop manual. It specifically says if you don't have the red key and you don't have any other keys programmed (or something of that sort) they have to get a new ECM and key sets. That's the info straight from the 1997 Honda Prelude Shop Manual

Re: help bypass immobilizer (Boosted97Lude)
um... why don't you call Honda again and get the immobilizer bypas code so you can at least drive it to thw Honda dealership so they can program your keys
thing is, the honda dealers here in N. Cali won't service salvaged titles (especially prelude 97+ because of their type I immobilizer units) they say since anything can go wrong with the salvaged vehicles after servicing on them. so they avoid any complication by simply not having anything to do with salvaged titles.
