H22a1 vtec won't engage after warm up
I got a h22a1 and I'm having a intermittent problem with my vtec. I'm running a stock p28 ecu(i know i know I'm waiting for my hondata). I just changed my oil with 10w30 Mobil 1 full synthetic and new Mobil 1 filter. Cleaned the vtec solenoid. Vtec used to engage all the time but recently it started acting up. I know the solenoid works because when I ground it out I can hear it click. I'm not sure if its throwing a cel because it burnt out or was removed when I bought the car. The ecu isn't throwing it into limp mode either because it will still rev to 7200. Vtec still engages when it first warms up. Then maybe 3-5 mins after hitting operating temp. The vtec stops engaging. When I let my car cool down it engages agian. Also I need to do a valve lash but I don't think it will cause this problem. Does anyone have any idea?

Re: H22a1 vtec won't engage after warm up
Try using a p13 and see what happens. I wouldn't be running my car on the wrong ecu for any extended period of time(in this case, a non chipped civic ecu that's not running the p13 basemap). I suppose you ecu could be burning out or something, probably unlikely but a possibility. An h22a1's injectors uses a resistor box and I'm not sure what car you're running but it might not have one. If you swapped h22a4 obd2 injectors in then this is a non issue.

Re: H22a1 vtec won't engage after warm up
I would suggest checking the oil pressure when the car is warmed up as if the oil pressure drops too much the vtec oil pressure safety switch will keep the vtec from operating .....the main bearing clearances could be high hence low oil pressure when warm.....

For future reference
1: fix the valve lash its free if you have a few tools and can read a write up
2: take a bulb from the srs light or your preferred choice and replace the blown cel bulb with it.
3: never run the wrong ecu or a ecu with the wrong map you will run lean and break the motor
4:never try and "go into vtec" before operating temp is reached
