Default H22a timing

I have a few questions about the timing.

Is the service connector the same connector used to check engine codes?

When checking the timimg with a timing light I see a white mark and a red mark, the pointer points somewhere in between, how do I measure the exact degrees that I am without a digital timing gun? Do I use the timing advance **** on the back of the gun to set the timing?

Exactly what degree should a h22a (10.6:1 if I remember correctly) p13 ecu running on 91 octane be set at? (No major mods)

Stock H22a timming is 15* BTDC. Have never checked the timming via light so i cant elaborate on that. But as long as your have everything at TDC your timming should be fine.

yes

you should see a white mark if your using the advance with your timing gun, i believe the red mark is to time with out the use of advance on the gun. I prefer using the advance so i know exactly what my timing is set at.

Basically set the advance on the back of the gun to 15 degrees and you should now see the white (TDC) mark. Use the advance on the gun to line up the marks and that will be the degrees you are at. Then adjust with the dist. to your desired timing, adjust the guns advance accordingly so that your are lined up with the zero mark. Then tighten the dist., recheck and your done.

USDM stock timing specs are 13-17degrees, yours should be the same. But if i'm incorrect someone else will most likely point it out.

I'm pretty sure though. As the manual reads. (Which is probably you asked the question about the service connector first) You have to jump the conector BEFORE you start the car. Set the timing. (light with no advance - set to RED mark. That is 15deg.) then pull out the jumper wire. You're set. Otherwise, the computer constantly tries to compensate for the changing timing.

I am amazed of the amount of money that I have saved asking for help on this website. Timing was at 13.5* don't know if that was bad but I set it to 15*.

Thanks to all.
