Re: EGR Port Cleaning
Windwalker, OBD1 will never code up for a clogged system, the ECU only moniters lift. But there is an old Honda service bulletin for hesitation, stumbling off idle, The bulletin directs you to clean out the EGR ports. They have a repair kit for your car! Comes with a new set of plugs for the intake manifold.
Speaking of service bulletins, where would I find a complete listing of all that came out for the 92

Re: EGR Port Cleaning
I'm having EGR valve problems with my 98. My check engine light keeps coming on - had a guy at the auto parts store check the code and he said it was EGR and misfire. I replaced the plugs yesterday and the light came on again today. I'm guessing it's the EGR valve. I'm thinking about cleaning the EGR valve this weekend, but have never tackled anything like this before (always just done plugs, oil, etc.)! I think I'll try cleaning the ports as well, but am nervous about the drilling. What's the best way to make sure everything is clean? I'm guesing there are voids in the manifold that are hard to get to without taking the manifold off (not an option)? And rather than buying Honda plugs, can't I just tap the holes in the manifold and screw in some set screws? That way if it plugs up again, I wouldn't have to go through the drilling part again (don't know why they didn't do that in the first place). Any detailed help for a small-time tech would be great!

Just use this along with a ratchet wrench and all is well. The other nut that's hard to get to is the second one in on the bottom from the passenger side. I just use a bunch of socket extensions that go from behind the intake manifold to the nut. After having taken it on and off a few times now, I can get it off in about a half hour. You also need to take off the plastic box (haven't investigated what it actually does) by removing the two 10mm bolts. Leave the hoses attached, you just need that little bit of room to wiggle the manifold out (of my Accord anyway. Maybe you don't need to remove it if you're taking it out of a Prelude).

Re: EGR Port Cleaning
Drill out the ports carefully, clean ports w/carb cleaner, tap ports, clean more to remove metal shavings, close ports with bolts bought at hardware store. Sounds simple, and it is, this is how I did it on my h22 manifold. Just find the right bolt length and you're all set, 7 bolts I believe.

Re: EGR Port Cleaning
I did mine right in the garage. It would be best to take off the exhaust manifold, but I don't have the tools or time. Just make sure you use at least a full can of cleaner (your choice) and spray, blow out, repeat as long as it takes.

Re: EGR Port Cleaning
When we get these in our shop, we leave the manifold on. Just remove the EGR valve, shove a shop rag in exhaust hole and stick a hose in the intake (suction) side, with a funnel on the other end. Let the car idle, pour top engine cleaner, combustion chamber cleaner, carb cleaner, or sea foam. As the car idles the cleaner will saturate the build up and eventually pull it through. You will know its clean because the idle will go to about 2000 or die because of a BIG vacuum leak. Bolt the EGR back on and clear the code. Works every time!
thank you 92 civlude....this trick fixed the issue..pulling vacuum like a ****...
