Re: dipstick (machinehead)
top dot = full
2nd dot = down a quart
but if you are in between the 2, you are OK, if you are below the lower dot, add oil ASAP, if it doesn't register at all, then you dont need to drive it till u add oil

Re: dipstick (Turbo Sam)
you people are funny.
does anyone wait the 7500 miles between oil changes like the manual says? at the end of that long time the oil will definitely be low a quart or so, right?
so being low a quart or so would be good somehow? why the long period between oil changes in the manual?

Because the need to change your oil every 3000 miles is a myth perpetuated by oil companies.

Re: dipstick (sharkcohen)
though the manual does say depending on how you drive... 3000 for hard driven, 7500 for a car that's driven by a granny

also gerhard's independent research with the help of blackstone labs has shown that most good synthetic motor oils will be useable beyond 7500 miles...it's the filter that needs changing at the 7500 mi interval.

It's 3750 for "severe" conditions.
Incidently, I change mine around every 3000, but my motor is blown and I beat on it.

Re: dipstick (sharkcohen)
That's what I figured - I change it every 5k or so - and just keep an eye on the color to see how good it looks. I try to beat on my car but it's stronger than I am.

Re: dipstick (Jagan'92)
Oil color has little to do with its condition. If you really want to know how your oil is doing, send a sample off to be analyzed by a lab the next time you change your oil.
