Default diagnostics port

i thought my lude was running rich so i took it to my local garage, he said it failed emissions with high carbon monoxide but the hydrocarbons are fine, so he also thinks its running rich, however we cant find the diagnostics port. does any1 know exactly were it is and how many pins, my manual says in the passenger footwell and its 16 pin but i checked and all i've got is 2 plugs, a 3pin and a 2 pin. sorry for the long post. also i think its a broken 02 sensor, has any1 experienced that

ok i found the diagnostics plug, the workshop manual said it was a 16 pin but mine is a 3 pin, does this mean i haven't got OBDII? Any of you guys got 3 pins diagnostic plugs in your 5th gens?

the 3 pin you're referring to is most likely the service jumper wire... thats for someone w/o a scanner to pull codes using a paper clip... sticking each end of the paper clip to each end of the connector... and pull codes by watching the MIL (aka check engine light) for the long and short flashes it makes when you put the ignition switch to the on position....

and yes.. your 5th gen, along w/ the rest of the 5th gens, are OBD2.

thanx, i thought it was OBDII but just wanted to make sure as in the UK pre 98 preludes came with a 185BHP motor similar to the 4th gen, instead of the 200BHP in the later models

the 3 pin plug is not for the service connector, its a 2 pin plug that's right there with the obd2 datalink connector in the center console on the right side
