Re: brake lamp light and srs
The brake lamp light is caused by fluid, bulbs and the e-brake. Re-check all those things....might be your e-brake or the sensor for the e-brake.
For the SRS light, take the bulb out of the dash.

Re: brake lamp light and srs
To clarify as this has been brought up before:
The "Brake Lamp" light corresponds to a tailight, or the third brake light being out.
The e-brake light (comes on when your e-brake is up) corresponds to the e-brake and the brake fluid only.
Edit: To the OP have you replaced the tailight housing recently? If you use housings that are designed to work with a third brake light behind the glass and you have a spoiler light, the "Brake Lamp" light on the dash will always be on. Happened to me before and I had to switch them for a pair of tail lights that were designed to work with the spoiler light.

Re: brake lamp light and srs
Take a close look at the 3rd brake light, there are actually two bulbs in there so if one is out it will still light up some.
And has it been like this since you've owned the car or did just start?

Re: brake lamp light and srs
I'm pretty sure the license plate bulbs would not trigger the light, but it's worth checking out. But since the dash light has been like on forever, I would suspect the tail light housings themselves.
What I suspect, is that some time before you owned the car the tail lights were replaced with a set that came from a car that had a spoiler brake light instead of the high mount one behind the rear glass. This would cause the light to be on all the time, or at least it did in my case.

Well first I would replace any license plate lights that are out to rule out that being the problem. And if the problem persists after that I would look at borrowing a set of tail lights form a high mount brake light car to test them on yours.

Re: brake lamp light and srs
I suggest you follow the diagnostic procedure in the factory service manual. If it is a code one then it maybe the srs unit failure. fun fact: when you try to start your car over and over with a dead battery or a battery with low voltage it damages the SRS control unit. That is one reason why you should have your battery and charging system checked from time to time. a symptom of that is when the srs light randomly goes on/off at no set interval and at the same time doesnt store a code.

Re: brake lamp light and srs
It all depends on the way the altezzas were designed, either for the hight mount or the spoiler light. If you put them on and the light is still there you could always just remove the bulb from the light behind the dash to get rid of it.

oh darn, my bad. I did catch the part about the steering wheel. Anyway, forget what I said before. About the brake light, if the brake light failure sensor is defective it will cause the brake light on the dash to turn on as well. these are usually attached on or around the back side of the tail light assembly.

Your best bet is to get a service manual. They're floating around on the internet if you look for them. They have step by step instructions with illustrations to do pretty much anything to your car.
