Hi, I just bought a Honda Prelude. After looking at the mechanical history of the vehicle, to my dismay, it read "Radiator hoses pressurized, suspect blown head gasket."
DAMN IT!!! The car runs perfectly. There are no engine lights on or anything. However, I did a test I found online. It is the one in which to open the radiator cap and rev the engine. I didn't see any bubbling or discoloration. However, some radiator fluid did come out. I think I am going to have it tested for a blown gasket today. What test should I ask the mechanic to do on the vehicle?If I have a blown gasket would replacing the gasket fix the problem or would other work need to be done? How much should this cost? THANK YOU

The test you want to do is called a Leakdown test.

dont go straight to blown head gasket, check elsewhere first. Remove upper radiator hose and look at the radiator end for burnt plastic that once was the radiator inlet. THats a good problem i see alot with bad head gaskets

The head gasket costs around 60$, OEM part.

If you have any mechanical knowhow, I would say do it yourself. It is a pretty strait forward task. I have replace quit a few and even the first one was pretty simple. If you have a manual, that make it a lot easier. However, if you know what your doing you dont have to remove everything the manual says, which makes it a lot faster to complete.

do it yourself dude...if your just a tad bit mechanically inclined its not hard at all. will take no time

Yeah I know. My car is difficult can't really explain it but everyone that has worked on says its a pain. ANd it is cause sometimes I'll do some work on it, recently me and a friend did work on it and it was a bitch at times. Take off the head and take it to a shop to get resurfaced then put it back on. Sad to say tho sometimes I don't have the time or tools for it. Oh and my hayne's manual is lacking in detail.
