5th Gen. Prelude Automatic to Manual Swap Questions?
I have a 1998 Honda Prelude H22a VTEC (Base Model)
4-speed automatic/trip tronic or sport shift...whateve
Recently 3rd and 4th gear started slipping bad, pretty much undrivable. Had a shop take a look and got a quote for a full transmission rebuild $2800. I am not willing to pay this...lol Do you blame me. Instead I would like to take that $2800 and do a transmission swap. I wanted to ask you guys a few question before I start buying parts. Hope someone is willing to help?
My current transmission is the M6HA.(Not verified, what I found out through research) I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that buys used transmissions? Like a recycling center or Tranny rebuild shop...something like that? Preferably in Arizona.
I would also like to verify what I should swap in. I was looking at a M2Y4 because it's the base 5 speed tranny. I'm not looking for a race tranny, just an affordable manual. Would this tranny fit (I'm sure it would) and is it a reasonable swap? If you have any suggestions please share.
I also would like to verify what parts I need. From research I found that I will need:
- tranny
- shifter assembly
- shifter cables
- pedal assembly
- ecu
- 1/2 shaft
- driver side axle
- clutch master
- clutch slave
- hard line between clutch master and slave
- starter for manual tranny
optional:
- new instrument cluster
- clutch
- flywheel
- pressure plate
Please add any parts I am missing. Also any suggestions where to get these parts? Remember I'm on a $2800 budget.
Thank you ahead of time for any advice!!
