Default 1997 Prelude 2.2 liter V-Tech H22A4 eng

Am I correct in assuming (yeah I know ***-U-Me) the triangular mark on the crankshaft pulley point straight up to a mark on the block in order for this vehicle to be at TDC? The keyway is also pointing straight up in conjunction with the triangular mark.

My G'friend's son Prelude timing belt snapped and since it's an after market engine I don't see the notches that are displayed in you tube videos I'm watching with OEM engines.

Thank you

Not sure on the pulley, but the keyway will be pointing straight up. There is a little triangle on the oil pump that it should line up to.

Stick a 3/8" 12" extension in the #1 cylinder and rotate the engine..... when it sticks all the way up, you're at TDC. Go back and forth till its in peak of the height.

You'll need to align the balance shafts if it still has those, or just leave that belt off it won't make a difference. The alignment for the shafts is pretty simple, service bolt for one side and a tic mark for the other.

Also if the timing belt broke, the valves are probably bent. Did you take the head off? You should..... otherwise you'll get it all back together and find out your motor is shot. Better to find out now.

or you can do it the right way and just look at the marks on the flywheel. there is a TDC mark (single line, or a T/t) that will aim at an obvious pointer when it's at TDC. not to be confused with the timing marks which is a group of 3 straight lines, for 13/15/17 degrees BTDC
