Default 01 prelude flashing d4 light no start

Hello all on may 31st (last Friday) i bought my self a 2001 Honda prelude with 104000 miles on it and a auto trans. little later that day that i bought the car a check engine code came on the car (might not be related to flashing d4 light but this happened first) and the codes where p0700 and p0740 they are both trans related codes. The trans was shifting fine and car was very deliverable just would need some extra pressure some times shifting up the gears but other then that shifted fine. i did not have time to check into a few things for the codes but today on a drive from the house the engine shut down at a stop sign and the d4 light started to flash.(car was running normal till the stop sign) i tried to re starting in neutral and the car would crank but not turn over. ive read on a few forums the past few days about the p0740 code being related to the torque converter and now ive read flashing d4 lights on other Hondas also saying can be torque converter. ive also read a few things from this link about other flashing d4 trouble shooting.

http://techauto.awardspace.com/transmission.html

any other input would be appreciated ive read lots of great replys on other Honda issues on hear and hope to get some on my car.this is my first Honda and i like the car but im off to one bad start on it : \

Why don't you try resetting your ecu and seeing if the D4 light flashing returns? To do this you can pull the negative battery cable off for 30 seconds or pull the 7.5 amp clock/radio fuse in the under hood fuse box for 30 seconds. And try cleaning the shift solenoids on your transmission.

I read a post last night with a guy with a different honda but the same issues and he found a lose wire by the break and with that in mind i was looking around there in the day light and i saw a fuse on floor by the break. then i saw that the fuse box was right by where i rest my foot and it has no cover on it. sigh :\ so i kicked out a fuse that caused the d4 light to flash and the car not to start a little 15amp fuse.... but i still have the p0700 codes and the p0740 so at least the car runs but still needs some work

Glad ya figured your D4 light flashing issue. I'm back on here as well trying to get clues as to why mine is flashing. Engine has not stopped but shifting funky at times and loose speedometer when the D4 flashes. Comes and goes. Weird. Mine is 01 as well. I was told it could be a shift sensor as well?

Similar things happen to me, Sometimes my CEL will stay on (I have no codes) and the D4 light will start flashing, It's not related to the transmission because when the happens the Main Relay won't click and the car won't start, I think it's a wire somewhere shorted out because once I put the wire to my fog lights inside the fuse box under the dash and I left the fogs relay out and the CEL would stay on and D4 would flash and the car would not start, not until I figured out it was the wire I put going to nothing. Still does it once every few weeks and I have to put the key to the off position then to the last position until it goes away.

Changed speed sensor today and shifting, speedo works, and running much better. Still shifts hard at times from first to second but other than that good. Gonna clean the solenoids tomorrow and see if that helps anything.
