What oil yall runnin?
I use the Yamalube 10-40 in mine... but my buddy is sayin he needs 5W-30 Mobile 1 synthetic in his F3. Is it okay to run that oil or would it better to get "motorcycle" oil from a shop?
Thanks

get a motorcycle synthetic.
automotive synthetics include friction modifiers than cause clutch slippage. Mobil 1's MX4T synthetic lubricant (has no friction modifiers) is designed specifically for motors that share sumps with the transmission and include a wet clutch... i.e. most motorcycles.
other great ester based synthetics include Belray, Maxima, Motul, Silkolene (my preferred compound), Repsol, Castrol, and the motorcycle brands (i.e. Yamalube, Kawachem, Hondalube).
just dont use a castorene based synthetic... they are incompatible with dino juice. Motul and Silkolene offer castorene based oils for racing purposes. at $15 per litre, don't bother flushing your system for them.

I ran the Hondacare 10W-30 in my old YZF. The shop I go to never has the right weight Yamalube for some reason.
I also tryed running Castrol-GTX 10W-30 Auto oil. My bike seemed to run a bit hotter using that oil, I don't know why.

Mobil 1 car oil 15W-50. I have used almost all the differnt weights of mobil one and never had a problem as have used Red line racing oil 3-30 and 0-30. Never had a problem with clutch slipage.

Re: What oil yall runnin? (OnlyNod)
Can anyone confirm from experience the clutch slippage using regular motor oil. The reason I'm asking is because awhile back i bought a 99 gsxr 750 from a tow yard for cheap. To get it home they had to put some oil in it for me so they just grabbed whatever they had and tossed it in. The bike was bought for the purpose of being a stunt bike but the clutch won't grab at all. I'm wondering if this is the problem. I have since replaced the oil with motorcycle oil but is it possible the regular car oil might have ruined the clutch disks?

that's what i use too.
buy it at walmart, 20 bucks for 5 quarts comes out to 4 bucks a quart

Re: What oil yall runnin? (TurboInteg95)
i've changed the clutches on over 15 bikes due to this. everyone thinks they know better and try to save a few bucks.
shoots, i even did it with a brand new bike back in 1996. i stuck castrol syntec into my brand new Gixxer 750 and the clutch was gone before the odometer hit 10,000 miles.
it wasnt an overnight thing... the clutch would gradually begin to slip as it got hot. mind you this was after a couple oil changes. mile after mile when i began to notice this problem, the temperature threshold would get lower and lower until i could only get a few miles after startup before the clutch would not drive the wheel.
as for your situation, the clutch was probably dead before you got it. oil wont cause a clutch to die immediately.

Castrol GTX 20w50
I ran this oil in my FZR400 race bike for 2 seasons.
Of course ... I beat the snot out of it !!! I swapped oil and filter after each weekend.
No complaints ... no failures ...
I also ran this oil in my F2 street bike ... but I didn't have the bike long enough to determine if it was acceptable for street application.

I have over 30K miles (original clutch and plates) on my turbo busa with no clutch slipage all except break in mile with mobil 1 car oil. The bike before this was a turbo CBR900rr (20K+ miles) used only mobil 1 car oil in it also, never a problem. Anayone who regulaly use the clutch to do wheelies, burn out or drag race is going to need clutches regardless of what oil they use. Just 2 cents worth from a rider with over 20 years street time.

I have used almost all the differnt weights of Mobil one I have just switched to 15-50W latly so my oil dosn't thin out as much in the heat.
