How do you wash a bike without fairings?

The engine and some electrical connections are exposed in certain areas. I read somewhere taking off the seat was a good idea. But theres a fuse box under there. I'm sure if I start spraying, water will get in and cause a short circuit. This is my first bike so I have no idea where to start. Am I just supposed to wash it like a car? Rinse, Wash, Rinse, then Dry? It seems wrong to rinse the engine, but I figure it gets wet when driven in the rain. ??

If you are really that worried about a short happening disconnect the battery. All connections on a motorcycle are designed to withstand the elements as half of them spend their lives out in the rain unsheltered. Personally, i just wash it and dry it like anything else. If you wanted to be extra careful, you could put a plastic bag over the battery, fuse box but it wont hurt to get it wet, but it is not necessary.

me too, i usually dont care about the electric parts, and just start washing away. i usually dont wash around the batteries anyway, and when i do, i usually take it off.

on my naked bike i just wash the fairings plastic with soap and water not spraying down the whole bike. usually take a rag / wd-40 etc to the engine once a year or so.

take the battery out. Not a big deal and then you can work worry free. Just don't pressure wash directly. you can loosen connections and so on
