mine sounds like its in need of a replacement. what do you guys reccomend, replacing it with another honda oem one, or replacing it with an aftermarket adjustable one? is either one better than the other?

+1 on the APE CCTs.

To be more specific, the APE CCTs are manually adjusted. You'd only adjust it once, and leave it at that.

adjusting isn't the hard part. you can get a wrench/socket over the hex head side of the lifter easily enough and adjusting's a snap. adjusting it is very low key, done only if you hear the sound come back again. some loctite or the little rubber thingy they provide to make sure the locknut doens't back out should be good enough.

it's getting the bottom screw of the CCTL that holds it to the block that's a bitch.

definitely.

it's on the right side (if you're looking at the back of the bike) of the engine, on the back of the head/block.

the frame gets in the way of getting to the 2 bolts that hold it into the back of the head. also note that you'll need a new gasket when you replace it.

It also helps to ziptie the cam chain to the cam gear so the chain doesn't slide off while the tensioner is out.
