i've got a 99 TLR (5k kms)in yellow w/cf V&H slip ons... i love the bike and owned it since new (sept. 99)

BUT...

i dont really like the suspension. I weigh in at 170 lbs and the bike feels too stiff for me... i've dropped the front forks and played around with the compression and rebound (WAYYYYY better) but still dont feel 100% confident on the bike.

I can spring for an ohlins rear dampner but that will cost me about 1000 usd

So...

R6?? i llove the looks, its lightweight and 2 stroke like 15000 rpm redline (very honda).....

should i sell my bike???

I have a buddy that has a TLS. He had to go through his front suspension and replaced the rear with the Ohlin to prepare the bike for racing. Even after he did that I was able to out run him on the street. On the track we have only ridden once since he upgraded everything, unfortunately he was faster than I was, although in my defense I broke my big toe(shifting foot) two days before the track day and wasn't riding all that well. Now that I have race compound on my R6 I think that the bikes are fairly well matched on the track, atleast with us riding. There were racers out there that were smoking both of us on R6s.
He made the upgrades to his becuase he was never happy with the way the bike handled, for various different reasons. I on the other hand never made a adjustment to my R6 until I changed to the race compound. I weigh just a little more than you (175) and bet the R6 would be perfect for you right off the show room floor.
As far as engine pull, we both thought that he would be able to pull on me in the straights, but no matter where I was in my RPM he never pulled that much if at all. Occasionally I could even reel him in a bit.
There are few bikes out there that I would trade my R6 for, and right now the TLR is not one of them. When they first came out I swore that would be my next bike. I used to have a GSXR750 and wanted to stay in the family, but the R6 pulled me away and I am very very pleased with the R6 bone stock.
I can still pull better(longer) wheelies than my buddy, but then again he prefers to keep both tires on the ground.

Good luck in your choice, it isn't an easy one, and there are lots of bikes out there that are better in slightly different ways, but damn fun and fast all the same.

R6 isnt 2 stroke. Go to a dealership and ride some bikes. Test ride the R6, new GSXR and the F4i. See which one you like better.

The bike si going to perform for certain reasons. The reason you guys were getting a whoopin by the VTwin is because its a faster bike. The GSXR750 has to compete against the RC51 and other 1000 Vtwins in Super bike. So the 600s get swashed by the twins.

Actually what I said was a R6 was "whoopin" everything out there, including my buddy on his TLS and me on my R6. I am not debating the details of which bike is faster. I was simply stating that rider skill is much more important than the numbers on these bikes.
