I just bought a 92 cbr600 f2 apparently my timing belt/chain is shot. My question is what kind of system does it have belt or chain and does anyone know where i could find spec sheets or motor diagrams for that bike? any and all recommendations and or advice is appreciated. Jason

If you have the bike, couldn't you just take it apart and look? Definitely get a manual though.

timing chain. Pm nerdish for an f2 factory manual. How did you figure out the chain is shot w/o blowing the engine? Btw, its a quick deal. Remove valvecover, valvetrain, head, R&R... assembly. New headgasket, valvecover gasket. Check the valves while you're in there and sync the carbs. A good part of a day's work

Are you sure it's the chain, or just the cam chain tensioner? F2 and F3's had a shotty automatic CCT. They had to be replaced every so often.

Install new CCT, Measure slack, if fine, don't ripe the engine apart.

From what I've gathered the CCT problem is more prone to F4s and F4i's, bikes with automatic CCTs (do the F2s and F3s have the same CCT?).

A lot of people with F2/F3's claim their bike has never had a CCT problem, but some will say they're on they're 11th CCT. I've tried to read up on the topic but can't find anything conclusive..

What I do know is that you should replace your automatic CCT with a manual CCT. That way you won't have to replace it every XX miles/months.

I would beg to differ on both accounts. On SBN's "Help Me Fix It" forum, I regularly see F2's and F3's with CCT problems. To an extent, It's a question of age on the F2's. Springs don't last forever.

As for the manual tensioner, no you won't have to replace it again, but you WILL have to tension the chain, manually, more often. It you're not a gear head, the automatic one is a better choice (hence why they're on there by default). Replacing a CCT only takes about 30 minutes and a few bucks.
