just got a new jacket and the nor cal storm here is still kinda windling down, curious if I get caught in a small drizzle if it's going to really screw up the jacket or nothing big.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but my leather jacket and pants seen couple of rains( 30 mins riding in the freeway raining) and it looks ok to me

I think it depends on the kind of leather... typically suede gets damaged in the rain? As far as my experience goes, nothing's been messed up yet.


I can't get that damn episode of seinfeld out of my head, where jerry gets his new jacket ruined by the rain... im pretty sure it was suede leather though

You have to be careful how you let leather dry. Did it get completely soaked through? If it's only on the surface, I would use only Lexol leather conditioner. You could also use the cleaner if your jacket got splashed by road grime.

I have ridden in the rain plenty of times and I have never done anything to my leathers and the still seem fine to me.

What I do when I arrive at my home is to grab a cloth and proceed to wipe it on the jacket, trying to dry it the most possible, then I hang the jacket on a ventilated area , preferably with something to hold it half open so air can circulate better. I let it that way all night and in the morning it's good to go.

Mine still has that distinctive leather "smell", nor has seen to lose any of it's properties. But since we're on the subject, could anyone recommend any leather care products?

I've also used Chelsea's Leather Food, which was great too.

It hasn't gotten wet, but for some reason or another I thought I always heard it's bad. My gloves (also leather) say to not get them wet as it can dry and weaken the leather. I'm guessing that might be the same with jackets...but not a complete death sentence for it

They can stand a little soaking. The cows in the rain don't all shrivel up, right?

When you let them dry, don't put the leather near a heat source.

i ride about 2 days a week in the rain wearing my 2 piece. i hang it up to dry and it seems to be ok...

I've been caught in a few storms myself. Its ok for leathers to get wet, just don't hang them to dry or they'll stretch out. Dry them off with a towel and lay them out flat to dry. I wash my leathers in the bath tub so water isn't going to hurt em.
