why do you need to wheelie so bad? You shouldnt be having problems doing it on a CBR though. in first, at like 20, pull the clutch in, rev and pop the clutch out to bring the nose up, the regulate the clutch lever to keep it where you want it.

Also, cover the rear brake pedal in case you get in trouble.

I dont condone stunts at all however....

Edit: Just to put it in perspective, I could wheelie (not ride it, but pop it up) on my 1982 Honda FT500 ASCOT that had 22hp and one cylinder mind you. It can be done on any bike.

If you dont know how to weelie, your not ready for it
Learn how to control your motorcycle, and you should be able to understand how to do it on its own.

BTW: i can weelie on my 10hp ksr if i want to too (which i never do)

uh...yeah obviously you arent ready for it....dont pop the clutch yet. roll on and roll off the throttle (do it really quick, whipping action) in first at about 8 or 9 rpm, I strongly recommend not popping the clutch yet, see if the other way works.

First gear floor it mid to high rpm's shut the throttle completely, then wide open throttle again. You have to do it really fast, it may take awhile to get your timing. I can do this on my r6 in second gear. Not sure about third.

go to http://www.sportbikes.net and look in the stunter forum.

Popping the clutch is a good way to loop a bike, you want to slip the clutch a bit. I am not advocating doing wheelies, but if you want to look there. that way you wont get flamed for asking........

The problem with the throttle method on an f3 is that you are too high in the rpm band. You have to do it at 8k...... you are at redline by the time you get it up and ride it 50ft or so.......

I can do this with a bounce in 2nd/3rd, and with a little work 4th....... 1st you can just whack the throttle aggressively and it will come up.

Oh yeah, make sure you wear some good gear cause roadrash hurts

Dang, I think my motorcycle clutch is slipping. From a stop to full acceleration, my CBR revs up to around 10,000 and it from that point on, the RPMs shoots up to redline with the bike not going anywhere. It's acting as if a clutch was slipping in a car.

Man, this really sucks. Would "dirty" oil cause this to happen? I believe the clutch packs run submerged in oil, correct? I haven't changed my oil, nor have ridden that often these past three months.

For now, with a slipping gear box, no more wheelie attempts.

sounds like a worn out clutch. When i would pull in my clutch, shift gears and let off the clutch it would rev really high and slowly rev down like it was slipping. I replaced the clutch's with barnett kevlar clutches.

Most people feel, that the kevlar clutches make it harder to "Slip the clutch" for clutch wheelies.

Bounce method:
In 1st or second, accelerate to about 8krpms on the tach, stand on front pegs, let off the throttle, when the front forks dip, give a little hop/bounce on the pegs, whack the throttle again and give a gentle tug up on the bars. If you time the bounce correctly, the front forks will compress as you are bouncing. When the spring expands it will "spring" the front end into the air, unloading the suspension like that and an aggressive acceleration will bring it up. With one tooth down in the front and i can do this in 1st-4th.

Nah you dont need to change gearing unless you want to do slow REALLY SLOW wheelies. I am able to bring mine up in 1st/2nd and 3rd with stock gearing. I dropped one tooth in the front and can now bring up 4th as well with a little work. That is damn good for an old school f3.......

yupx2

On the other hand......get up to 15 or so and then feed the power in hard. When you are used to the feeling go for the balance point and so on. There are schools that teach it!!! i think they use CBR9's with a balance rig.

CBR900's are a entirely different beast. There is no need to use a clutch on the 900 to do a wheelie.

Guess thats why they use it as a learning device then?

By the way, I assume your body mass (weight) has something to do with attempting wheelies too, correct?

I'm 5'7" and tip the scale at 190lbs. Mostly muscle with a bit of flab

Being heavier, will that require more speed before you pop a wheelie? Does initial speed have nothing to do with it? Maybe I just weigh too much.....hehehe. Time for a diet.

I haven't seen ANYONE with a motorcycle pop a wheelie from a stopped position. Is this possible, or is this down right dangerous? (Yeah, yeah, attempting wheelies is already dangerous enough.)

I know that with too much revs and a drop of the clutch, the bike will flip you over.

No not really. I have seen very large people wheelie a motorcycle. It is all about weight balance. The goal is to balance the weight evenly over the rear tire of the motorcycle. The amount of bodyweight can affect how high you have to get the bike up to balance, but that is about it.

As far as popping a wheelie from a dead stop, well check the stunters forum at sportbikes.net, look for any posts pertaining to kyle with triple Xtreme.

If you have your bike geared really high, you can pop wheelies easily and you can ride them very slowly. He gets them vertical and can ride them at 1/2 mph.

He is actually moving in this picture at about 3-5mph.......

What ever you do, don't just grab the clutch and wind it up and drop it. Yes it works very well. But it's also very uncontrolled unless you are a motorcross rider also.

2 ways....

1 opening and closing the throttle. This works and is pretty controllable. One problem is that you can give it too much throttle and stand it up a little too tall. Pretty much using the suspension as a spring.

2 just put your butt on the back of the seat (rider seat.. since the f3 still has the notorious wave runner bench seat) and in 1st gear just open the throttle up and at about 7K-8K rpms, pull up on the bars. This will give you much more control on how fast the front comes up. it will be a nice gradual "power" type of wheelie, only with a little bit of help from you. This way you won't have to worry about the jurky motion from the throttle open/close/open method. or the uncontrollabe "clutch wheelie".

But no offense and I'm not meaning to be mean...but learn the bike and how to ride it first. Wheelies and other stuff will come in time.

Learn where the power is and how to control it before you turn to the dark side.

IMO...you can't win a race on a wheelie. Wheelies are what you do after you win!!!

Good luck but be careful. I've seen lots of people loop out a street bike. the last one wasn't a loop out but a tank slapper on the set down at about 110mph. And yes it was a friend of mine. And yes he ended up being ok...This time.
