I was thinking of buying a bike to purely ride at the Moroso Road Course, primarily because Im afraid of getting hurt on the street. However I talked to a guy who said it is very difficult to ride a street bike on a road course (specifically a GSX-R 600). Does anyone else feel the same way?

As long as it's been cleared for motorcycle use, I don't see what the problem is...a lot of us go to track days on tracks that cars use.

What the hell is that guy talking about???? The track is where you actually start to utilize the bike's true perfomance and capabilities. For the most part, most sport/superbikes go thru R&D with track in mind. We're even starting to see manufacturers use racebikes as platforms for their streetbikes.

This will be my first bike, and I will have ZERO riding experiance. He said it would take me about a year before I could truly have fun at a road course.

well it may take a few months, dunno about a year (if he is saying year round riding) but i would say that would be the best practice for any novice or even experts.

Well then he might have a point. If you have zero experience, starting off and riding a streetbike (599cc+) on the track might not be a good idea (and some organizations won't allow it). There are certain skills you will need to have learned before hitting the track.

If you really insist on starting off at the track with no prior experience, look into attending a MSF course to get a feel for riding and go out and buya 125. That would be a great platform to start and work on your skills. Then you can work your way up.

What would be a good place for a first time rider to get asociated with a bike?

My problem with buying a smaller bike first is that I dont want to spend the money on it, then have to upgrade in a month. I know going straight to a 600 is not the best way for me to learn, but I would rather have something that I will not outgrow.

A good place would be roads where the traffic is light. Practice in empty parking lots first, then gradually increase your "street-time."

Definitely do NOT spend your time learning the bike on a track, at least in the beginning. It's a waste of your time and money.

Right now is the perfect time to buy a bike specifically for the track. I am about to buy one. I don't like the thought of ruining my 600RR and crashing it at the track. Go to http://www.wera.com and go to forums and look for bikes for sale. They're some really good deals right now.

Does anyone here keep their bikes in the bed of a pickup? If so, how do you get it out?

I will not have a garage, and will have limited space.
