Default f2 jet question

I have a 94 f2 and working on my first bike has been cool and fustrating. Everything is releatively easy to get to, (expcet when i changed the plugs) but the carbs are all new to me.

I have a K&N filter and a yosi pipe. is their a base line for what jet i should run?

any time i choke it at all it dies, and it wont idle unless i give it just a bit of gas. thoughts?

thanks guys.

It depends on what size your main jets are. As a rule of thumb one size up should do the trick.

On my FZR, 107.5 is the stock size and for a filter and pipe, 110's are recommended.

is there a special tool to measue float height?

It may, I did that on mine. With the K&N filter it ran rich and fouled plugs.

The float hieght is measured with a small ruler. I have a tiny metal one that I use, make sure it's marked in millimeters though.

A factory service manual is the best investment you can make if you want to start working on this yourself, it explains how to do *everything*. Get one, you will be glad.

Your engine wont take any choke even when its cold? It wont even idle? What kind of carbs? Have you tried adjusting your fuel screws? Checked your needle jets for out of roundness?

I would think going back to a stock filter from a high flowing K&N would cause you to run even richer than you are now.

to my knowledge it is running stock carbs. I managed to keep it running now, messed with teh idle screw by the petcock. I hve never had the bike in "cold weather" but i have never had to choke it to start it, and if i ad a little choke when its running it dies. Bowls and jets look clean it only has 6,XXX miles on it.

I did buy the manual for it, a clymer. so its a good start for me.

I'll you guys posted with wha ti find.

One other thing to check is your emulsion tubes. That is the tube that the needle sits in. Over time the emulsion tube wears out and fuel gets by the needle when it shouldn't often causing a rich condition or poor idle. This is the basic problem I am having with my bike right now.

I don't know why the K&N filter causes it to run rich, it seems to be counterintuitive but that's just the behavior it exhibits. When you have an underlying larger problem sometimes band-aid fixes don't seem to do the right thing such as my stock filter vs the K&N. The right thing to do obviously is to get to the root of the problem, which in my case is not enough time to replace the emulsion tubes
