I've been eyeballing Fits since they came out in the US, always hoped to get one, then last weekend my dreams came true!

So the plan is to drop in a J32a2 mated to an Accord 6 speed. This will eventually replace my all arounder CRX with a b20 vtec, except with AC and (hopefully) power steering.

Here is how she made it home after an 800 mile round trip


There are no Honda dealers around here, so while I was picking up this car I stopped at University Honda in Missoula to get a new key cut since I bought it without a key. Those guys were super helpful with everything and even fit me in late on a Friday. Unfortunately there was a short in the system so they couldn't program the transponder. They did cut me 2 keys and I will probably bypass that system anyway so that there will be no need for the stock ECU.

I don't know how much power these little things make, but with a v6 you gotta shoot for 300+

Here is the progress so far.

Got the new bumper cover, seems like a good fit so far. Doesn't have that blue tint that lots of these bumpers have, which is nice.





This is the new driver side mount, it's not pretty but it is functional. Will be adding some more structure to keep it rigid later on.



Finally able to lift up the beast!



Cut a little off the subframe to clear the trans, migd and sanded smooth it looks almost factory.



The start of the rear mount, added a ton of strength to the engine mount system.



You fit owners will notice that I removed the factory rear mount and welded a 1/4" plate over where it mounted. That was about a 2 hour job, but the new system was totally worth all that extra work. Lots of exhaust room on both sides of this piece.



Got a factory replacement set of headlights, went with the base versions, not really into shiny stuff.



Should have tons of room still in the bay.



This is where I am now stuck. We have used quite a few Tong Yang hoods, they all fit pretty alright, never perfect, but close enough.



This one is having a bunch of trouble though, the rear is 1/2" too low and about 1/4" too far back. I moved the hinges as far forward as they can go.

I'm wondering if the hinges got bent in the accident, but they seem to be okay, no cracking paint or anything. Probably end up spacing them up and boring out the mount holes a bit to get it aligned. Can't build the front bumper until the hood and headlights get lined up.



Other than that I got the AC condenser and radiator ordered.

Great news! After hours of fighting with some weird key problem the ignition now works.



Turns out part of the key was incorrectly cut, we found that out after completely removing the ignition and filing town one of the tumbler pins. Weird problem, glad that part is finally sorted out!

Whats going on with the headers? I see you cut off two of the mounting holes from the header?

It's way closer now, we bent the hinges and all the gaps look WAY better. Should be okay to go now.

Not sure what part you are looking at. Might be the little pin at the top where they connect the two parts of the gasket.

I am definitely thinking about moving on from the sedan, I can use the Axles, trans and ECU from that car and part out the rest. If I get some free time tonight I might goof around with the wiring. Try to get the stock ECU to work first and then do that upgrade I showed you

Got the panels lined up in an acceptable way, just had to get the 16" crescent on them hinges. You can see a little bend on the nose, not sure what's going on there, but I'm going to thrash on this car so it's not a big deal.







My old man had the clever idea on how to hold everything in place during assembly.

Here are the shifter cables from the Accord vs the Fit. The connectors are all the some, but the box in the Accord is quite a bit longer.






Simply cut and rewelded them to the correct length.





Here is the RSX pedal that I got, doesn't look like the best solution.


And some folks asked me about the ground clearance so here is a shot of that.

Really cool build. Not sure how many miles are on the motor, but I would do a valve adjustment, egr port clean, and gaskets while the motor is out. That rear bank looks like it would be a bitch to get to in the future
