Honda Fit or Toyota Prius
My girlfriend is looking for a new daily. She has narrowed it down to the Fit and the Prius. I'm trying to sway her to get the Fit, but for some reason she is stuck on the Prius. So, Fit owners, what is it that you love so much about your car? And why should she get the Fit instead of the Prius?

Because the money she will save in the initial purchase price will offset the increased fuel usage for over 5 years...
There are 2 reasons to buy the Prius:
1) You're a douchebag who wants to be seen driving one.
2) You want a high tech toy, and don't mind paying extra for that.
If you don't fit either of those descriptions, the Fit is go.

I would get the Prius because its more car and they ride smoother, and better, and there's the MPG don't forget. The Prius has more zoom factor and there is this little button you push on the freeway to pass a car, called Power Boost ! Yeah it is a trip, like Whoosh ! It kicks it up a notch, and I have burned rubber using it on a test drive. Imagine what you could do with it after you own it and want to flat out roll !
Of course if you want more cargo area, the Fit wins, but that's the only category.

Re: Honda Fit or Toyota Prius
do you want a hybrid or not? do you want a lot of cargo capacity or not?
and i can burn rubber in a diesel box truck. you don't need a stupid push to pass button..
i imagine you can't do much to a prius if you want to flat out roll as you say because of all of the complicated electronics you'd have to bypass.
oh yeah, the prius may be "more car" but it's also a LOT more money.. much more than what you'd "suffer" in gas mileage over 5 years..

The Prius is much more money and remember the battery replacement at about 80k miles or so. I bought a 2010 Fit Sport a month ago and love it. Cargo area is great for size of car. Also the "magic" seats fold 2 different ways.
Quality in both is about the same. I'm getting a realistic 32mpg with about 75% city and 25%highway in using the calculations.

Buy the FIT, if she's an environmentalist. The production of the prius is actually more polluting then the FIT's emissions will produce in her time of onwership. And the lower initial cost is a bonus too.

Good point from a guy who lives in the country being grossly polluted by the nickel mine where most of the battery materials come from. The Prius does not look very good when you take into account ALL of the environmental hazards from production, and from eventual disposal, then add up the extra purchase cost and the maintenance cost. A very expensive car overall.

Counter point: Driving a used car is more green than any car out there. When you look at the cost of production and all relating factors. Building NO car is always better than all the materials and energy required to build and sell a (any) car.

Hey all,
If you really want to get really green how about a bicycle?
For your main transportation a motorcycle which takes less material and energy to build than any production car. When you need to transport things they make motorcycle trailers or you can rent a vehicle for the day or weekend.

my vote goes to the Fit. my cousin and her husband bought a Fit and were completely satisfied with it. if you're looking to buy used, be sure to get it professionally inspected. sometimes the small mechanic shops don't catch all the issues that the car has. there are a handful of companies that provide the inspection service, my cousin recommended aim mobile inspections for my honda civic.

Re: Honda Fit or Toyota Prius
Just look at how many recalls there has been, that should be reason enough not to get a prius. Plus htm got 42 mpg with the fit when they test drove it. Get the fit, toyota's ****!

I was just gonna bring up that point as well. The Prius is having brake problems now. Toyota just got $h!t on.

Re: Honda Fit or Toyota Prius
So, I happen to traded my 08 Prius to 10 Fit sports less than a month ago... when I bought my Prius back in 07, I paid almost $32k for it with 6 yr 120k mile warrenty which by the way doesn't include the battery... (it was extra $1000 for the battery warrenty) I was having so much trouble with the recall so I just gave up and traded it in for a Fit. When I was shopping for the replacement car, I looked at 3 things: MPG, Space, and Handling. Money wasn't really a big deal at the time so I even looked at some fancy ones such as Mini Cooper S & Volvo C30 (I know, I have a weird taste in cars...) After test driving 20+ cars in 3 days, I finally ended up getting a Fit sports with a lot of options. This is what I can tell you between these two cars. MPG: I'm getting about 39MPG avg on Fit right now since I'm really babying the car (probablly until 1k miles) and that's pretty close to what I used to get from my Prius (41 MPG avg). Space: Before you buy Prius, make sure you try the rear seats of it. I'm 5-10 180lb guy and my head was kept on touching the roof. The trunk space of Prius is def. bigger tho. Handling: I am really impressed with the Fit's suspension. I had a BMW Z4 3.0i back in 05 and I am really having fun with my Fit as much as Z4! And the pushing button thing on Prius... There's a quiet noticeable delay on the so call "boost" and I don't think it's as much fun as the iVtec (first time Honda buyer ) All in all, I don't think Prius is worth extra $10k. And I'll def choose Honda Fit if I were you.

Ah, but don't forget "The Zoom Factor" being pitched by the idiot in post #3. He doesn't like his Fit 'cuz it don't got the zoom button.

Re: Honda Fit or Toyota Prius
Maybe your girlfriend should drive both cars at the Toyota and Honda dealers and see which one she feels more comfortable with. The Honda Insight is also a good middle ground: a hybrid with very low emissions, but not as expensive as the Prius.

In a Junkyard near you.
Re: Honda Fit or Toyota Prius
Do you want to drive an economical car with low maintenance costs (VERY low cost of ownership) Or do you want to break the bank on repairs with a Hybrid (any hybrid) that is over priced from the beginning?
