Default No torque converter lockup 2000 Honda CRV (1st generation)

I recent acquired a 2000 CRV AWD with about 165K mi . The torque convert is not locking up (even with temp gauge at midpoint). No CEL. T I changed the ATF 3x drain and fill the old fluid looked very dark on the intital drain and there was a lot of metal on the drain plug plug . The transmission shifts perfectly and there is no noise buI the converter just does not lock up 55 or so wit light load on level ground .

I am considering cleaning the solenoid screens (replace or clean?) and maybe replacing the thermostat (takes a little longer to warm up than it should ).

Any advice or tips on diagnosing and fixing this problem is appreciated.

Did you ever figure out what was going with the CR-V? I have a 2001 doing the exact same thing...

Yes. I replaced the thermostat and it was fine. I used a an aftermarket NAPA 180 deg thermostat . Althought the thermostat works fine , judging from the difference in appearand between the original OEM vs the aftemarket unit , I would recommend using a Honda brand thermostat (heavy duty).

RKPatt- Do you mean the thermostat is/was fine OR the lockup function in od is working fine since changing the thermostat? I have the same issue and need guidance, please. Btw...when I first bought it several years ago / 20000 miles ago, I changed trans fluid x3. First refill I also added Seafoam Trans Tune which soiled the fluid of that refill big time. I didn't have any problems until maybe withing the last 3000 miles, that's when it started loosing lockup in od. Intermittent and infrequently at first, but it has progressed to every time I drive it now.
