Default High compression B20?

Ok well I have recently purchased a B20 from Pacific Import. The motor came out of a 2001 CRV it has the P8R head which I know is rare, but I don't know if my motor is high compression or not. If it doesn't have a knock sensor that means its automatically a low compression motor?

I'll buy the head if you are interested in selling it.

I was wondering if my motor was high or low compression but now I know that it's a low compression since it doesn't have a knock sensor. Damn that sucks

All B20's arent a true high compression engine. even the 9.6:1 isnt considered a high compression. its a little on the low side.

Ive had a B20 with PHK pistons and a P8R head, so it just means if you really want to know, then youll have to pull the head off to see what you have.

Nut a decent set of cams and a tune and youll have a nice little street engine

Thanks for the info. Will do on the cams but it can wait. Still deciding on which transmission would be best on it. I have a B16 but I think a GSR would be better

The crv uses cables to shift, so without a good bit of work, you aren't using either of those

they bolt together but you cant use a gsr trans in a crv or vice versa because of the shifter linkage.
cant you just check the stamp on the bottom of the block or oil pan to see if its p3f or phk? do some p3f blocks come with the phk pistons inside?

also, i was under the impression that the p8r only came on the low compression 8.8-9.2 motors not the high compression 9.6 motor. learn something new every day

Yea, the bottom of the block doesnt show the real pistons. I thot the same thing. I didnt know until after I pulld the head and saw it for myself.

even still, the 9.2 and 9.6 isnt much of a margin. the PHK piistons added to the the 47cc chambers of the P8R will bring it around 9.2.

the 8.8 is just a pain in the *** unless you want to build it past 11:1 and get some performance out of it.

EDIT: there was a 2 layer HG that would bring the P8R equipped B20 to 9.6, but those HG's are hard to find. I thought I bought a 2 layer with OEM part number, and it turned out to be a 3 layer. So the real 2 layer HGs are non existent except in japan.

What I said had nothing to do with bolting the engine and tranny together. It has everything to do with shifting it in the crv

What car did that engine/tranny go in? That should be your answer why it fit. If it were possible to fit a hydraulic tranny to a CRV everybody would've been doin it by now

We're comparing b20's here, if it were comparing a b20 to a b18c of course thats no contest.

Then why are you in the crv forum? If you just want b20 there are plenty of places to get that.
