Default buying cars from auctions

Anyone on here ever bought cars from auctions? My 2000 CRV was stolen over the summer and it turned up 3 months later but I'd already signed it over to the insurance company. They don't do buy backs (thanks Progressive!) and now its at an auction and I'm thinking about buying it back. Just wondering if anyone has experience with auctions and how best to win. Thanks!

Take what the insurance gave you for the car and bid incrementally on it. Maybe you'll get lucky and come out ahead.

Be sure to look into whether you'll need a dealer's license in order to bid. I know Copart requires it for some but not all.

thanks for the input. Yes they do require membership to bid ($200) plus there are other fees if I win but if I can get it for under $1000 it's worth it. What a hassle though, thieves suck!
