Acceleration Issue

Acceleration Issue
I have a 1997 Honda CR-V and when I press the gas pedal it will not accelerate. The RPMs stay the same, the check engine light is not on, and if I press the pedal down further it may jump forward, then go back to nothing. Something under the car clunks if I keep the pedal pressed so I have to repeatedly let up and press down until it finally decides to go.

Re: Acceleration Issue
In order to address the problem you'll have to educate yourself (Google) on engine basics and terminology.
There is a cable that attaches to your gas pedal and runs to a valve on your throttle body (part of the intake manifold). The valve regulates air flow into your engine. When you press on your gas pedal the cable opens the valve, your engine sucks in air, and the air mixes with gas, a spark ignites the mixture and kaboom.
Check to see if the cable has too much slack, or if the throttle body butterfly valve is stuck closed
