Default Where is the tach wire?

Where is the diagnostic tach connection on a Civic DX hatch. Is there one under the hood or do I have to connect it to the distributor? My service manual shows it connected somewhere on the distributor but it isn't clear and says something about an adapter. How do I hook this up?

Its inside the distributor, Follow the Blue wire on the dizzy going into the dizzy housing. Use your adapter to plug the blue wire end terminal and into your diagnostic tool.

I am actually trying to connect a tachometer for use inside the car in lieu of switching to an SI cluster which I cant seem to find. I just asked about the diagnostic one because i've read on some models there is one right by the shock tower. Are there other, better places on an EF to connect a tach? If not, can I just splice into the wire you are talking about on the dizzy?

You can splice into the solid blue tach signal at the ecu or on the wires going to the cluster. Save some wire length that way.

if the tach is aftermarket you can just splice into the solid blue at the dis, if you try to splice into the stock rpm cluster it wont work cause it cant decide on right signal its recieving. this comment came through reading autometer.com info

Ummm wat?

He has a cluster without a tach. The plug that has the tach signal is on the right side(assuming you're sitting in the driver's seat) and is the solid blue wire on the end of the connector. I'd rather not tap into the tach signal at the dizzy. You would have to route a single wire throughout the car and it could be messy. It's better to connect a tach where it's designed to be wired into the car. Or just buy an Si cluster and you're set.

I've yet to find an si cluster for a decent price. I don't know where to look though, just ebay and marketplace.

The Civic Si is not the only trim level with a tachometer in the cluster. Tachs can be found in:

'88-91 Civic LX 4dr
'88-91 Civic 4WD 5dr
'88-91 Civic DX 5dr
'88-91 CRX HF (5000 RPM redline)
'88-91 CRX DX
'88-91 CRX Si
'89-91 Civic Si 3dr
'90-91 Civic EX 4dr

What year is your Civic? There are shape and/or wiring differences among '88, '89, and '90-91 clusters, depending on manufacturers and the car's seat belt equipment.
