Ok so I had a buddy help me put my wheels on not too long ago..he did the rear and I did the front to speed up the process. I dont know how but I guess he managed to cross thread the stud. So now im trying to replace my rear driver side bearing/hub and the nut is half way off but the whole stud is loose from the hub now too. I cant get the wheel or hub assembly off.

So far this is what i got in mind:

1. tried using a dremel to cut the lugnut in half then use a chisel to split it.
2. drill out the stud while holding the lugnut with pliers
3. remove the rear caliper and the 25mm nut holding the hub in, then grinding the stud head off

Any other ideas??

#2 idea will never work.

#3 is your best bet for a clean removal.
#1 might work if you have aluminum lugs, but you may damage your wheel.

****, that looks like a nightmare. if splitting it off didn't work I would take the caliper off. drilling sounds like a good plan in theory but I for see it being rather dangerous if you loose hold of the pliers.

I just had that happen to five of my studs! you're in for some fun. Best way is to take a cut off tool and start a cut on one side of the stud where it meets the lug nut, cut at an angle so that you hit the center of the stud right before you hit the wheel. Then use a big sledge and break off the majority of the stud, then hit it the other way to knock off the little piece of lugnut. I bought new hubs and arp studs and had them press fit and welded.

People truly underestimate the power of anti-seize. Most people look at it as an added cost or waste of time. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

anti seize is a good and bad thing, yes stops lugs from sticking , but also acts as a lubricant when cranking down your lugs. (triples the force) therefore when using anti seize make sure to use a torque wrench and torque them to proper specs. unless you like stipped or broken studs.

I use anti-seize and a torque wrench. The day we put the wheels on I had a friend help and he was using an impact gun. Ofcourse its my fault for letting him touch my car but thats besides the fact. Damage is already done im just searching for ideas. My hub assembly came in today so hopefully I can do this tmo and Im just gonna end up taking the caliper off, undo the bolt holding the hub assm. and grind it off from the back.

GDD isn't tech. I would never go there for tech information. It's mostly there for fun and joking around. Don't expect serious answers in GDD, even though you might get them at times.
