Unusuall rattle while turning
I have a 88 Civic 4dr sedan DX that rattles when I am turning and excelerating. It is louder when turning to the left. It sounds like it is around the Rt front wheel well. I think it's a bad tie rod... Any guesses??

Thanks for reply. Will do a visual, but the sound is not a crunch, and only is there when turning & accelerating.. Accelerating and going forward no unusual sound at all

Re: Unusuall rattle while turning (MNJC1)
if its only turning then its most likely the cv joints. if the boot is torn and the grease has come out it will make noise when turning only. i'll bet on it being the cv.
i think autozone sells them with a lifetime warrenty with a core refund as well.

Since when does a bad cv joint sound like a crunch, sounds more like a clicking sound to me. Anyways do you still have the head shields under your car ? Does it sound like a rattling noise ?

Since the inner cv joint has no grease and the ball bearings inside are literally CRUNCHING ive seen this all to often on inner's the joint has seperated in different spots and it allows for a crunch noise to occur when the joint is pressed together....
Any vibrations at all?

I took a gander down there, Boot looks good but I have to take a better look tomorrow. the sound is deffantly a clicking sound...no crunching. The sound is more pronounced when turning left and accelerating. There is a little when turning and accelerating right, but not as noticible.

Well even if the boot is alright it doesnt mean the cv joint is......it can still go bad from wear and tear, also check your inner's....just grab them and give um a few good tugs. Drive your car some more and listen/feel for vibrations while you make these turns......any clunking(from middle of the engine area) when you hit a bump at all?

True, but when the cv joints go bad how many times is it the inner, not very often. So I was refering to the outer cv joint. To see if your cv joints are bad, find a big parking lot and go in a circle in reverse or drive. If it clicks when your turning the one way, thats the bad cv joint.

Well id replace your left cv shaft for now and if your still getting it later on then you know its the right too,
but it sounds more apparent on the left, and when turning sharp right of course that will affect the left as well, just not as much.
You can get a new axle for 60 bucks roughly(that is after you exchange your core).
