I've been asking myself the same question. Here is some info that I've gotten from a reputable friend. He owns a 1991 MR2 NA which has now been turbo'd. He's putting out about 300HP. So I think he knows what he's talking about.

Here is what he has told me.

A 1st gen B16 has compresion at around 10.5:1 so it's prety high. What you will want to do is either lower the compression by adding a thicker head gasket or putting in lower compresion pistons or you can keep the stock compression with a low boosted turbo say at around 7psi. I'm going to be doing this next winter and I hope it works fine. I'm hoping for about 225 HP to the wheels. Even if I get 200HP to the wheels I'll be pretty happy. Now for your Turbo... If you want it to spool faster... go with something small. If you want crazy power go with something bigger. You see if you go with a small turbo it will spool up quick but at aroubd 12psi all you will get is hot air which will rob you of power. With a big turbo you will get a slow response but once you do it will be able to wail to some high psi's.

I hope this gives you a bit of help.

you can run up to 8 psi on your b16 safely w/ a kit like the Drag gen III. you would be making around 250 to the wheels...this kit is very safe, Myself along with many others on this board have been running this kit for over two years w/ out a single problem. you can do a search in the FI forum...you will read countless answers like the one I just gave you

Don't even worry about blowing your motor the only way your going to blow it is if you get boost happy you can build the block but that's probably what your not talking about your probably thinking what can i ad on to make the turbo safer mostly nothing just don't gun your car out of every turn and you'll stay safe

THE B16 MOTOR IS VERY STRONG I HAVE SEEN STOCK BLOCK B16'S WITH TURBO KITS BOOST 15PSI AND RUN 11.7 ON SLICKS IN 4TH GEN CIVIC'S AND CRX'S. JUST DON'T GO BOOST HAPPY RUN 6-7PSI ON THE STREET AND 10PSI AT THE TRACK WITH A LITTLE RACE GAS AND YOU WILL BE FINE

well i think that 6-8 psi is very possible. and you cr is at 10:2 not 10:5. greddy si made 220 at 5psi thats pretty good for me. there is also a groupbuy for the revhard stage 2 for 2900.
