Sorry there wasn't a way to word the thread title.



So for those how have a traction bar (jimfab, innovate, full-race, ect):

1) OEM cross member has a spot where it can be used to jack up the front end in the middle. Is it okay to do the same with a traction bar?

2) I have a FR bar and it has small loops on the each side that replaces the OEM front tow hooks. Rather than some fancy tow hook, couldn't I just get use tow straps around my traction bar?

without seeing your crossmember, i would have to say no. it most likely wasnt designed to be forced up from the middle, the worst area to push. the OEM crossmember was designed for this.

uh, why would you want to use that? if the traction bar has loops, then thats all you need. that racing strap replaces what you see race cars with fixed tow hooks jutting out.

well the holes on the side of the FR traction bar do not extend down very far.
Because they do not, I was worried that if my car did need to be pulled out of sand pit, it may be a PITA to hook up but not only that the tow line would pull UPWARD and damage my bumper.

So rather than towing from "not low enough" loops of the FR traction bar, I was thinking about just strapping it around my FR traction bar. it would be right in the middle of my grill and when the town line pulls UPWARD or sideways, it wouldn't cause signficant damage.

Is my thinking flawed?

Id like to know aswell. Ive pulled my car home with my etd bar when I blew my motor with a tow strap around it with my buddy pulling me in his truck and me just using the brakes in my car

Being able to jack off it would be nice but I never have

I have the Full-Race crossmember on my sedan, some observations.

I have jacked it up from the middle, but you do see some flex. I do that just long enough for me to slip jack stands on the sides where it mounts to the frame. The tow hooks that are on the bottom will work for towing, but for tightening down not so much. Some time in the spring when my drive train was a complete nightmare, one of the flatbed operators pulled the center strap a little too tight and now the tow hooks are canted in ~15 degrees.

Thank you for that information.

I have yet to install the FR bar on my car.
It's priceless being able to learn from other peoples experiences.

Yes, that tow loop/hook just looks small compared to OEM ones & they don't stick down far enough IMHO.
