Throw out bearing return spring?!?
Im running a S1 cable tranny with a Exedy stage one clutch. About 3-4 weeks ago I went to push the clutch pedal down to shift into 1st cuz the light turned green and when I pushed the pedal down I heard a loud snap. At first I thought it was my clutch cable. Replaced that, and wasnt the problem. Pulled the tranny found that the spring that returns the throw out bearin was broke. Went to Honda, got one for a 91 CRX si cuz I didnt know witch one to get. Maybe for a 90-93 teg? Anyways, it looked just like the broken spring. It was a tight fight but it worked.
Now the same thing happend, but the snap was as loud and I can still shift. I had to tighten the hell out of the clutch cable (Im running a teg cable, they are a bit longer then the CRX ones). But the throw out bearing isnt gettin fully trown back, its restin on the pressure plate.
Anyone ever had this happen? Or know why this is happening?
Thanks for any kids of help or input.
Matt

I dont use any grease and have never had any problems .. i just use brake cleaner and a brush to always clean out the inside of the tranny.

I had the same thing happen. When I disassembled, the spring was broken where it engages the throwout bearing. What happened (i think) was when I put it together, I got the fork on top of the spring instead of seated on the throwout bearing. It worked for a while until it broke the spring. Then, snap, lots of play in clutch and would not disengage. Pay close attention to where the fork is located.
