Default Temp gauge problem please help!

Hey everyone im having a problem with my temperature gauge on my 88 crx. Earlier i was driving through and my temp was normal. I jumped on the freeway and about halfway home i noticed my temp gauge was all the way at the bottom cold like the car wasnt running so i pulled off the exit and went to the gas station and sat idle for a couple minutes and it went back to normal so i jumped back on the freeway and sure enough a few minutes later it was at the bottom of the cold. I have no idea what could be going on. Anyone? Any help is extremely appreciated.

do you have a thermostat on the car?if its stuck open or does not have one at all it will cause an overcooling condition.does it have the stock radiator?
