shifter slop

shifter slop
I've got a bunch of slop in my shifter, will an aftermarket shifter fix the slop from the bushing at the back end of the selector rod, or are there parts that'd still need replacing with as new shifter. If if helps, I'm looking at an APC short shifter since they are cheap, and available in bulk packs (I've got a bunch of efs and egs)

Re: shifter slop
It's going to be more than just the shifter it's self. There are stabalizer bar bushings and the shift linkage itself that could have slop as well.

Thanks for the heads up on those I'm familiar with them(pulled plenty of transmissions) it's just the rear one I have questions about, never had to screw with that one before

Re: shifter slop
yeah, slop isnt going to be solved by replacing the shifter.
its mostly on the other end closer to the tranny.
there are modifications you can do, or pay others to weld a replacement, but its not an off the shelf thing.

Re: shifter slop
Sure wish someone would make a bushing kit for the part up by the transmission. Don't care if I have to drill out the ones on there if it would come with new bushings and a couple bolts.

More than likely those bushings causing your issue...

Re: shifter slop
no. this just makes it kinda mushier. it makes an effect, but not really solving the problem.

Re: shifter slop
I was under the impression that was more of an aftermarket shifter issue solved by a stack of washers/socket/etc I'll have to get under there and check for sure where it's coming from. It's more pronounced in the side to side than the fore/aft motions

Re: shifter slop
Could this be part of the problem?

This is for a different transmission but the principle is the same
