Restoring black bumpers and trim
I have been trying various products to keep the black plastic bumpers and trim on my 89 hatch looking nie and black...and not oxidized/faded looking.
Was wondering if anyone had recommendations based off of experience.
I've tried Mothers back to Black, which is crap...slimy, and rubs off.
I have been using Lexol Vinylex and it makes the bumpers and trim look very good - but of course after it rains it looks horrible again, which I realize I may just have to live with....
but, was hoping to get everyones feedback on what they use, the results they get, and how long it lasts.
Thanks.

Re: Restoring black bumpers and trim
I am really surprised nobody has mentioned cream based shoe polish. It's the same concept with the peanut butter(penetrating oils)and lasts a really long time. And you don't have to worry about paint chipping. It contains oils that are supposed to permeate leather, but it also gets into the plastic as well. Gives it that healthy look, instead of it looking old and brittle. It may take a few applications to coat the trim evenly. Just be sure to use long, clean strokes to avoid lines and streaks. You'll see what I mean when you apply it.
Here are my moldings before I applied the polish.
And after...note how much darker the door moldings are.
What sucks about Back to Black and Armor All style products is that they often attract dust, and leaves a coat of **** on your moldings and trim.
Just make sure you use painters tape to protect the paint around the moldings when you apply it. That way you can get the nooks and crannies and not make a mess.

This is actuall simalar, just made for this purpose^^:
My trim is also looking verry old from 94, i researched a little and came up with a product called forever black. Its a dye, that comes with a cleaner, no painting, just be carful the dye doesnt get on paint. I purchased from amazon and havent seen it in stores. It seems to have good reviews. I was gonna put it on today but it got dark on me. Might do it tomorrow and post pics.
Heres the link from amazon:
