Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
Well it's been a while since I updated. So here's what I've done since then. The clutch and tranny are now in! The 88 accord disk fits perfectly.
Pressure plate.
Si tranny.
Tranny installed.
I then moved on to installing the radius rod bushings and cleaning up the subframes and installing them.
Front subframe.
Radius rod bushings. Install them part numbers facing each other.
Rear subframe (steering rack goes in this one). This is after a little cleaning, it was covered in grease from a leaky cv boot.
Underside.
After cleaning I noticed a lot of paint had peeled off and the metal had rusted, so I stripped of the rust and repainted it.
Since I was in the painting mood I decided to paint my trailing arm pins too.

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
I also went ahead and painted the rear tranny mount bracket.
Here's the bracket installed. I had to source two more bolts because my old tranny had the two holes completely stripped out. I rock pink bolts lol.
I then installed the steering rack and ES bushings. One thing to remember when installing this is that you need to line up the rack gear rod with the steering column collar on the inside of the car before you bolt the rear subframe all the way up. If you don't then you wont have enough room to slip the collar over the gear rod.
Here's the rack from underneath, with ES bushings.

I'm loving all the new bushings man.
No one will know what a difference this will make until they do it them self. Changes the car, best upgrade I have ever done.

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
^^ Thanks guys. Ya I can't wait to feel the difference the bushings make and all the mods I'm doing. I just found out that my struts are all blown, the tokico blues and the oem ones I bought used. Oh well that's how it goes sometimes. Looks like it's time to buy new struts, I'm thinking either kyb gs2's or stagg, anyone try the stagg brand?

top stuff the best mods for a 4G civic by far sorted suspension = win , did the same with my ef2 when i first got it, i have the red energy bushings which are very rigid. good write up on the steering rack too. mine has developed a knock on full lock so i will be rebuilding it this summer, if your looking for good cheap oem shocks go with KYB ive been using them years on the civics they're top quality for the price. good luck with the build !

Here's a pic of the camber arm next to a 3/8 inch rachet for size comparison.

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
I took out my shift linkage to replace the bushing and this is what I found...
The PO cut the shifter! Awesome short shifter bra lol. He then proceeded to hammer on the shift **** because he cut off the threads. I've already got a pretty sick height adjustable short shifter ordered which should be hear soon. I'm pretty sure my crx was at race wars in the fast and the furious lol.

Make you a deal ... do the bushings on my 90 crx
and I will paint your car any color you want
nice writeup I have been thinking about doing this but I don't have a press and not sure i want stitches HA!
So, what will you do for alignment?
You find a shop that will do it for you when you are done?
Think you can drive it there?

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
Thanks, That sounds like a deal to me! It is in need of some serious body work and paint lol. That's next on my list, but probably not till the weather gets warmer or I have a better place to do it at. For an alignment I haven't decided who I'm gonna take it to yet. I think I'll be able to drive it there just fine after I do a ghetto alignment myself just eyeballing everything. You don't happen to live in Colorado do you?
Bro you should definitely take him up on getting this thing painted.

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
So today I ordered my new kyb GR2 struts and my short shifter came in the mail, I can't wait to install it! It's made from steel and is pretty heavy, not cheap aluminum crap on ebay for 10$ lol. This guy has a lifetime warranty too, so if you're ever dissatisfied or it breaks, which he says it will never, he'll give you a full refund.

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
Haha nice, ya my car was super slammed with the tokicos blues. I don't want it that slammed anymore it was seriously like 5 inches from the pavement lol. The sportlines were what the previous owner had on the tokicos so I hope they are still good and won't put my ride as low with the new kyb's.

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
I finally did it! Here's the video I was trying to upload of how my car used to be. I was filming with one hand and steering with the other, hence my grunting lol. Crank up the volume to really experience it, sounds like a champ huh.

I can't wait to hear and see the after. I couldn't stop laughing while watching the vid. It sounds like some kind of rare bird's mating call, lol.
