last hope for a 91 hatch project DOHC ZC AXLES
hi all, i have been working on my DOHC ZC for a bit(91 std hatch)
the engine was purchased in 04 from hmotors... the tranny in 2016
the intermediate shaft doesnt line up with the bolts on the block... and hmotors hasnt really shown an interest in making it right YET
what are my options? i have a 4 speed from the original car... can i swap the internals and use stock axles?
raxles told me im fucked without the intermediate
so i have a $550 dollar paper weight

you didn't say what trans you're trying to use? are we to assume both are JDM DOHC ZC units from a Civic?
In Honda Engine Swaps by Aaron Bonk (SA Design books) it says:
The transmission of choice is the Civic-style ZC transmission available with the engine that is purchased. .... It is mandatory to use the intermediate shaft found on the 88-91 JDM Civic ZC; the USDM integra version won't work.
So, which one is wrong? Your engine block or your intermediate shaft or the trans? If it's all 88-91 JDM Civic ZC, then it should go together without an issue. Yes, you can reuse the 4 speed straight up with the axles and all, but I have no idea if the guts from the ZC can be swapped into the 4 speed case. There was some indication on here in a thread that it's possible, but I haven't done it.

yea sorry i wasnt more clear... jdm zc motor stamped zc... jdm zc tranny 5 speed... best i can tell is the intermediate shaft is for an auto tranny... it has 9at stamped on it... fits in tranny just fine but the bolt holes on the block are about 1/2" off

Very few people still retain the knowledge for the DOHC specific info, even fewer still using the engine. I couldn't tell you what's different about yours but I can say the easiest way to keep things simple now and in the future is to take the gears out and stick them into an SOHC cable case (if possible the Si one since it will have the higher final drive). That way once it's all together you just treat it like it's a normal D-Series transmission meant for your car.

here is some good reading.
sounds like a 44500-SK7-020 is what you need.
