jurking to the left while driveing

jurking to the left while driveing
just like the title says. when i take off from a dead stop all the way through 3rd gear my steering wheel jurks to the left.
and also when i turn either way the steering wheel fights back the other way and when i fight back with it, it makes a loud *** poping noise. What could be the problem?
