Re: (EJ1Z6)
I had to adjust my fitv, but one of the bolts holding it stripped, so, I had to do it with it still on the throttle body, while still attached to the intake manifold in the car. I had to use my fingernails, to tighten it, no screwdriver would fit in there with the vacuum hoses in the way. It took a while, but it tightened faster when I was able to get two fingers in there. This is on a odb1 d15b vtec.

i was half way through detaching the FITV when i realized i should've messed with the idle adjust screw. messed around with that for a bit and amazingly the idle went from fluctuating 1k to a very nice idle. well, if it starts idling again, i'll definitely have to tackle the FITV.

its OBD0 AND 1 that posses this part.
its not needed at all IMHO , just make a block off plate or go with a newer TB.

you cant just switch to a newer TB unless you upgrade to obd2 where the ecu knows enough to utilize the IACV for cold idle. however i agree with you in saying that its not needed. i just hold the idle at 1K on those cold mornings and it warms up quick to idle smoothly

Another Diagnosis for surging idle.
If your motor is surging plug the bottom hole to the left of the butterfly in the picture above with yor finger. If your idle stabilizes the your FITV is loose.

Can you guys help clear something up?
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Nerologic »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">...from what i know of, and it controls the idle when its warm and when it is cold, and it changes it depends on the warmth of the coolnant, so basically whne ur coolant is warm (engine is warm) and idle goes down...</TD></TR></TABLE>
then..
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by KoRE »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">FITV only contorl COLD Idle the IACV controls the Warm Idle...
I'm pretty sure that's the way it works</TD></TR></TABLE>
So what is it, does the FITV control warm and cold, or just cold idle? If it doesnt do warm, can anything be done with the IAVC as like this thread shows, as in clean it?

only thing that can be done with the iacv is to clean the screen on it with some carb cleaner. no tightening.

Re: (Nerologic)
is the FITV interchangable between 4th gen and 5th gen? i think i have a FITV problem. the car starts and it idles really low at 250 until i hit the gas then it goes to 1100, when its warm it goes down to 850.

FITV's are interchangable, hence i am running a 88 prebule one on my b16 i just had to change the end caps, and they just swaped perfectly...

Cool, I'll have to try that also as well. Thanks guys! Great post BTW, I did read it originally when it was created but didn't put much thought into it since I'm not driving my car now.

Re: How to fix a FITV its as easy as 1, 2, 3.... (ijjz)
IACV is also the same thing as the EACV. It's the one that's on the back of the intake manifold. I'm 99% positive that this controls the cold idle rpm b/c my car has no cold idle in the mornings. Yes, it sucks b/c you have to sit there w/the foot on the gas, and can't be out of the car scraping the ice of the windshield. My car for a while had no cold idle and wasn't throwing any codes, well it finally threw the EACV code.
I've taken it apart as much as you can and cleaned it too.
I did the same with the FITV, b/c mine had aslo unscrewed like mentioned before.
I haven't fixed it all yet, so still no cold idle and I haven't tried plugging the hole in the tb w/my finger yet to centralize the problem, but I will when I have some time.
Are IACV's (or EACV's if you wanna be correct) interchangeable from other motors? b/c i need one and i don't wanna pay for one at the stealership.
This guy has a great tech portion to his site that talks about all this stuff. Check it out. Yes there's something besides honda-tech.

yes all of the ones i have came across were interchangeable, u might need to change the end caps where the colant lines go, and they bolt right up to a diff FITV so u migth just need to retain ur old caps...

Just finished up and this solved the last and final runability issue my b16a crx had.
I knew the blasted high cold idle was being caused by the Fast Idle Thermo Valve, but I just did'nt want to go in and rip everything apart without atleast having some sort of clue as to what I was doing.
Thanks for the great write up.

Re: (Hybridize)
K, I messed with mine today after I changed the oil and by plugging the EACV valve w/my finger it didn't due jack crap. I know it's clean b/c I cleaned it twice.
Symptoms, still no cold idle, and when put in neutral, motor's revs want to drop low sometimes.
FITV is screwed in and clean also.
who knows? maybe i've just hit a mental wall.
throttle cable is correct btw.

Re: How to fix a FITV its as easy as 1, 2, 3.... (virginia_dude)
EDIT: When my b16 is warm sometimes it wants to drop idle to about 250-500 variable. It kinda scares me somtimes. When its cold, it idles at 1K for about aminute then rises to about 1500 until its at running temp.
