Hesitation while driving
Hello all, I have searched for this problem and haven't found anything yet.
I have a 90 civic hatchback MT, over 200k on it and it runs like a champ except every once in a while. Sometimes when if I don't let the car warm up and just drive, the idle fluctuates and the car will die, almost like it wont get out of the warm up cycle. I let it warm up and poof its fine. Thats not too bad of a prob, so I let that one slide. It would throw a check engine light every once in a while, but would disappear as soon as it came and wasn't consistent with the hesitations. I also cant tell you what code it threw as I just now found how to check for them and it hasn't returned.
My real problem is that when I am driving, occasionally the car hesitates for like half a sec, almost feels like it doesn't know where the throttle position is, goes to idle, and then right back up again. Like a "buck". It does that at various speeds so there is no constant. I have replaced the fuel filter, new o2 sensor, air filter, plugs, the easy stuff. Nothings worked. Before I go and spend more money for a fuel pump (which I don't think it needs - it seems to just go to idle for a split second, never cuts out completely) has anyone heard of this problem before? Is it common? Could it be the TPS? Any help is appreciated!!

Re: Hesitation while driving (efjones9)
Code 1 is 02 sensor fault
Code 7 is Throttle position sensor circuit
Code 17 Is Vehicle spped sensor fault
If you have a bad TPS your car will . Be sure on your codes

Re: Hesitation while driving (beige89civic)
Yeah, I just went out and looked again. Its a 1 and a 7. Now for the TPS, do I need a new throttle body? Or can I just put a new one on? It doesnt look like it is attached with bolts or anything....

Re: Hesitation while driving (inside0ut)
You can get just a TPS in the aftermarket. Through a Honda store, you'd have to get an entire throttle body. Junkyard time dude!
