Hey there Honda-Tech. I have yet another question to ask. My ECU is throwing a code 9 which has something to do with the Number 1 Cylinder Position. What does that mean? And how can i fix it? Please let me know ASAP! I want this check engine light Gone!!

Cylinder Position Sensor

It's in the distributor, and is a two wire pickup coil sensor. Check your distributor harness first and make sure the wires are connected properly.

If you have a multimeter you can check to see if your sensor blew out its winding. If that is the case you will need a new set of sensors (3), or a new distributor.

yes that is the likely reason your motor is sputtering. New dizzy will be your likely fix, I don't think the sensors can be replaced be themselves, your have to get them in a new dizzy housing. Check "Distributor King" on Ebay cause he sales dizzys for dirt cheap and has lifetime gaurantees on them

I just opened up my dizzy cap and and there was a bunch of shredded copper wire looking crap on the bottom. I think thats what my problem was. Was that it?

More than likely. If you have access to a soldering iron, solder them up good. IT is a sensor, and resistances in the circuit will create a lower reading, which could still trigger the CEL.

Before you repair, figure out why they shredded. Did the wires hit the cap? Or the wheels way in the back of the case?

EDIT:

You can swap out sensor assemblies. I successfully transplanted D16 sensors into a B16 case after my rotor shattered and destroyed the wiring. Each sensor has a plastic "dowel" sticking out from the bottom to position it. I was in a bind, so I had to improvise, it's been like that now for over 2 years, not one issue.

I'm not too sure why they were shredded, But I'm gonna get a new dizzy for only 20 bucks. So i say why not just get a new one rather than fixing the old one. What about timing it after i put the new dizzy in? I've never timed my car before.

If access to a timing light is difficult, you can get it fairly close by engine RPM if your idle speed and fast idle are correct.

670-750 is normal hot idle, shoot for 700.

1400-1500 is normal cold idle.

Adjust your timing to fit into the RPM range above if you cannot find a timing light. It is best to set timing with the engine fully hot. Center the distributor and drive it for a few blocks. Park it and jump the blue or grey SCS connector with the engine running. Next loosen the bolts on the dizzy, and clock it until the correct hot idle is maintained. This will get you very close to correct timing.

I just installed the dizzy and it turns over but doesn't start. We made sure that all of the spark plug wires spark but it still does not turn on. What may be the problem?

Correct firing order? What did the replacement dizzy come off of?

I'm sure i have the correct firing order although i will double and even triple check. I picked up a refurbished dizzy from an Auto Parts store down the road. The funny thing is that my car is an 88 and the distributor came off of a 90 but the plugs from the 90 fit and the 88 don't.??

DPFI distributors and MPFI distributors don't interchange.

I know they don't but why would the plugs from the 88 distributor not fit and the ones from the 90 fit?

Are the wire colors different compared to the screwed up distributor? If so you can re-pin them as long as the new distributor follows the same color scheme. I've seen that happen a few times. Answer your PM so I can help you faster. It's not a pop-up its a PM.
