Gas Prices In San Diego vs Ethanol E10 or E85 prices
Alright I searched for any topics concerning using ethanol in honda motors and I didnt turn up much.
Now my question or concern is the outrageous prices of gas in the San Diego county. I have noticed that Ethanol is being presented here in SD since it is cheaper priced then normal gas..
So my question is can a d series motor handle either E10 or E85 fuel? I certainly dont want to find out the hard way if something does happen. Does anyone have any exp with using these in SD or anywhere
BTW E10 is 10% Ethanol & 90 Unleaded Gas, E85 is 85% Ethanol & 15% Unleaded gas.. and Im using a D16A6 motor in my CRX

87 Octane in SD is 2.83 cents and climbing..
89 & 91 octane are already over 3 dollars

E-10 shouldn't be a problem...I've periodically run different mixes of Ethanol for years with no ill effects. Regular gas engines can use up to a 10% mixture safely. Some states are considering bumping the E5 and 10 up 20 or 25...
So what happens if you use more then 10%?
Ethanol has a corrosive nature when coming into contact with rubber and platics. Diluted down to 10% isn't much of an issue....moving on up to 25% would require you to upgrade to a fuel system impervious to the corrosion.
And I've heard, but can't confirm, that you'll need to change your fuel filter more frequently...something about the ethanol cleaning the system and it all ends up in the filter.
So what happens if you use more then 10%?

Minnesota has had a 10 percent ethanol blend requirement for a decade. I've never had to complain about it other than the fact that it produces a few less mpg.
For instance, I filled up my Accord in Milwaukee for the drive back to Minneapolis. The Accord did its best-ever mpg at 34.5. That's at 70mph too.
To answer your question, my 1991 D15B1 hatch eats the E-10 just fine, and still does almost 40mpg.

i've never had a problem filling up with ethanol, but i don't fill up with it as much cuz gas here is 2.63 so it's still affordable compared to SD. I'm thinking its gotta suck for truck an suv drivers.

Well funny story to that.. I was filling up my rex yesterday and my old roommate just got an SUV who also putting gas into his ride. Well long story short he used to make fun of me because im a tall guy in such a small car yadda yadda, well i filled up my tank with $21.00 dollars while he was already on the $48-49 dollar mark.
Well before we were both done he was asking if I knew anyone selling a crx or civic my year.

We pay about $1.25 here in Budapest for 1 liter of 95 octane gasoline, $1.40 for 98 octane and $1.50 for 99 and 100 octane gasolines, if you figure out how many liters are a gallon, then you will see that we pay much more in Europe for gas than the folks in the USA. 1 liter = 0.264 gallons, we pay nearly twice as much for gas here!!!
