Exhaust Shield
90 CRX DX. I need to remove the exhaust manifold shield to get to the manifold bolts. This car has AC and there is very little space to get to the lower shield bolts. Any ideas how to get this *&%^$#@ thing off? I am removing the head. Can i remove the head with the intake and exhaust manifolds attached to the head? I dont want to remove the radiator and all that crap if i dont have to.

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: Exhaust Shield
Bend the lower shield out of the way if you have to. I usually just disconnect the exhaust manifold from the head and underneath too; then pull it off the head. The intake manifold can be left on and pulled with the cylinder head. Unless you get ballsy and undo the manifold from the mid pipe - most of the time the studs break/strip even with a torch.

Re: Exhaust Shield
Maybe i will just take a cutoff wheel and hack the shield off. I dont need it do i? These honda engines were designed pretty well. But i can see some things that they didnt put much thought into. They should have put double roller chains in, instead of a belt. My Nissan NAPZ 2.4 engine lasted over 300,000 miles without a hickup. It finally burned a valve. The chain was still good. my honda has 85,000 miles and i am already pulling the head.

Re: Exhaust Shield
Pull the rad! You have to drain the coolant anyways.... Think how dumb you'd feel if you skewer the rad with a wrench and it springs a leak. It's four 10mm bolts, two hose clamps, one electrical connector - not that tough dude!
