worth building a6?
just recently purchased a 88 hatchback with a 1.5... i sold my 88 rex but still have the a6, almost complete, but i got the block and the head and stuuufff.... anyone think if built properly i can go fast fast, i was thinking do all that expensive stuff to the insides, then maybe turbo kit and zoom! i dunno if it would be worth it, i could just buy a 'b' this or an 'h' that, more so looking to go daily driver honda reliable fast down the straight track... if anyone wants to give opinions, or laugh, or tell me to search thats ok, everything helps! thanks

If you want to turbo, I'd stick with the D-series. With forged rods and pistons you can get way over 200 to the wheels, and you can put the $2000 for the B swap to use on the turbo kit itself.
N/A is a different story, building a D over 160 whp is pretty much impossible on a reasonable budget. B's have way more potential N/A.

Re: worth building a6? (FBS)
yeah i have a d16a6 in my hatch right now. I dig how it runs on 87 octane and gets 40mpg that is totally fine with me. If you are looking for power and speed from your d16 make sure it isnt beat to bad and throw a turbo at it. With proper tunning and a good amount of dyno time you should be able to kill. A guy at a local shop near me turboed his sohc and managed to pull 11's sounds crazy but with tunning and the know how a sohc turboed can be leathal.
the choice is up to you, just know what you are looking for, I am thinking of either a b-16 swap n/a or turbo my sohc. Right now the turbo sounds like more fun.

B16A with LS tranny can do you good.
DOHC ZC with DX tranny would be nice too. Peppy, easy to maintain, cheap and reliable. With DX tranny you can get good mileage around town and on the highway. Si tranny (your stock CRX tranny since it's Si) for acceleration but bad mileage and top speed.

for the price of a b16.... i could build an a6 that would run circles around a b16.

i agree, there cheep, theres a guy here in montana that runs high 11's with his ZC, rods pistons, and a 14b turbo. its in a 84 hatch, but still. for the money, i couldent be happyer with my ZC. dont get me wrong, i like b-series, but for the money of a b-series swap, u can have a turbo'd d-series. thats my 2 cents

Remember what the guy above you said. When it comes to cheap, reliable, and fast, you can only have two out of three.

Why do you think the a6 wont be reliable while still being cheap & fast.
Do you have anything backing this up?

Re: worth building a6? (driveahonda)
I love my zc sohc in my rex, its a peppy car. not FAST, but definately a fun car to drive. The near future plan is a t25 and 0BD1 and crome.
and I love my si transmision, i get at least 350 miles out of a tank of gas and the gearing is prime for racing.
Yes, if your budget oriented its most definately worth it to build an A6.

Re: worth building a6? (SIred91)
i guarantee you that my b18 ls swap was cheaper and damn near as easy as a d-series.
if you can build a d-series for $250 that will beat an ls motor than go ahead and try.
motor, tranny, axles and ecu from a wrecked integra i bought = $200
mounts and linkage from a junkyard= $25
and i splurged for new plugs so= $25
and if you really want to get technical i parted out the integra after taking what i needed= about $160
sold my a6 and tranny= $150
cost of swap
200+25+25=$250
selling left overs
160+150=$310
so i actually made a few bucks off of it. i mean sure i love a d-series but you guys that always talk about b-swaps costing so much have probably never even done it.
**** a complete ls longblock is only $150 at the junkyard. the SAME price as a d15b2 would be at the junkyard.
i can find b16s for $5-$700 all the time and i guess for that you COULD build a nice d-series and POSSIBLY get it boosted but it wont be tuned with that kind of budget.

Re: worth building a6? (g-ride-si)
yah, and if all of us could find "a wrecked integra" for "200" then we would buy it.
not everybody is as cool and finds those deals like you did..
I mildly boosted D will tear the *** off any b swap that isnt boosted. duh.

Does the a6 have to stay n/a?
If not... used nitrous kit - $150-$200. That will surely spank a b18a/b.
If so... get the head shaved, get a clutch, get a cam, stick in p29 slugs. That will surely spank a b18a/b

g-ride-si youll never find a deal like that here in cali
and yes ive done several b-series swaps its easy but not everyone likes to run used parts, most people i know who get a b-series put out the money to get it rebuilt. Also if you stay with you D you dont have to worry about getting the car BAR'd

Re: (BiG Chris)
Am i the only one who doesnt get 40 mpg? here i mean **** i dont think ur actually getting 40mph and like 300 to a tank!!! i usually get about 190 on a full tank in my crx and my civic hatch.. ya thats city miles but im prob only averaging about 28 mpg or something like that...
i love d-series and will always stay d-series!! the only way i would go another way is K20 or b20 v-tec.. thats it... i had a 89 crx with a state reffed d16z6 and it was pretty quick and my hatch had a SOHC zc with a JRSC and it was not tuned and only had intake and exhaust and when i went to the track my clutch was slippin a lil and i ran a 14.9.... thats not bad for a zc supercharged only runnin 7 psi and only a FMU... but u know wat happend? it blew ... i would rec. building the motor and then getting ur **** tunned.... my plan right now is getting a Y8 or Z6 and just boosting it...
