Default D16Z6 or ZC ?

This has probably been discussed before, so feel free to post a link if you know it - search wouldn't find anything...

but this is going to be my daily driver and I want to insure I am getting the most from my money... speed matters, not is not critical, I plan on doing I/H/E maybe even getting some head work someday... that's about all, I want the power for highway and city driving, getting the good gas milage and having a super reliable car...

what should I go with?

Please don't comment if you want to tell me how much b series is, because honestly - it's not what I want $$$

Thanks

Keep in mind I have a ZC and I love it. But in your situation I might go with the Z6. A couple of reasons: 1. you will know the exact mileage of the motor. I never really liked the fact that I didn't know how many miles my motor had on it. 2. If you do ever plan to upgrade, after market parts are little more readily available for the Z6. My main thought here is valve train components no one seems to make anything for the top end of a ZC.

That being said if you do it, do it right. Go ahead and convert to OBD1. I think in the long run you will be happier if you do.

Did I mention that I do love my ZC?

actually I will be getting my d16z6 online if I did decide to purchase it - so milage = unknown... (nippon motors)

how is the low end on a z6 vs the ZC? this is daily driving, your talking vtec - that is what, 5200 rpms?

are you going to do a complete z6 swap or just the head? I think the zc will give you less headaches (don't have to worry anout z6 wireing). If you are going to do a complete z6 swap it will prolly be more reliable (newer motor) as long as you know what you are doing. It all depends now what u want. But IMO the zc is a more powerfull motor. my friend had a z6 in his 90 hatch and it barly pulls on my a6
just my opinion.

well it would be a complete swap, when your saying it barely pulls on you... like how much are you talking? many people are saying mid 15's after the swap, low 15 with IHE

age does concern me, ZC is sooooooooooooo old... have you rode in a zc or are you just guessing?

ya i have rode in a couple zc crx's and drove one. I honestly like it more then a z6.

And my buddies z6 has the same basicly the same mods as my a6. his car runs mid 15's mine runs high 15's

by the way my zc will be in next week ill let u know how it runs against a z6.

i love my z6. i'm still obd0 and have vtec on a switch. its got some SERIOUS top end. mated with a very short ratio (zc) tranny, i pulled a 328ci on the freeway.

our local tuner shop (ground zero, they have a couple 11 sec daily driven hatches) has seen z6 powered ef's with light weight redux and i/h/e pull high 14's easy

i would go with the z6. i have owned a dohc zc with a zc tranny i/h/e/chip and i didn't find it fast. on the highway i was barly pulling on a cx eg with a z6. if you convert your car to obd1 with a z6 it would almost be as reliable as stock imo. there are pros and cons of both and everyone on this form will debate them till were blue in the face but its now 2003 and i don't even like having a 7 year old motor and a zc could be 15 years old. i have a y8 now and i love it with the zc tranny. i think you should go buy a z6 and port the head. case closed
