d15b7/d15b VTEC Mini-me swap questions
I'm swapping a d15b VTEC head on my d15b7 block and I need to know what timing belt to use. I've searched but all I could find was FAQ's and thread on the z6 and y8 mini me's not the d15b head.
The b7 belt is too loose, so I grabbed a z6 belt but I've heard also that the z1(VX) belt is the best to use.
Also should I use different spark plug wires?
Thanks for your help.

no.. you do not need to change wires... they will be fine, unless they are messed up anyway...
and yes.. the z1 belt would be the best.. the z6 belt is, like, 2 or 3 teeth too big, as the deck height changes when you do these swaps...
the tightest/craziest one i have ever seen was a SOHC f22b bottom end with a DOHC h22 head... cant beat it... the weak spot on the h22 bottom end is the sleeves, and the f22's are cast iron (i think), which made that motor pretty much bullet proof.. he boosted it and everything..
anyway.. haha.. sorry about that.. but yeah... you might need an adjustable cam gear to get the timing dead on, as well..
when you put the head on, did you have the block decked or the head resurfaced? how thick of a head gasket did you use, as well? all these things affect the distance between the crank gear and the cam gear

just curious... did you, djyoshabyd, do any research before you posted? because it is the 1.6l heads that need the adjustable cam gear. the d15b vtec motors/heads are literally a bolt on affair with d15's. the cam is different from the z6/y8 cam. it's already pre adjusted for the difference in deck height. so, if the o/p was using a z6 or a y8 head, then you are correct on your info. however, he is using a d15b vtec head, and he only needs to worry about his timing belt.

not exactly true. the d15b vtec has the same head as the d16z6. so you would treat is as a d16z6 not as the usual d15
z6 belt will be a little lose but its the closest one without being oober tight. ive heard the vx belts were tight but if you milled and decked im pretty sure it could be your best bet

Don't mean to have to bring this thread back to life but ran into it:
What exactly do I need to run the D15B Vtec Head on my D15B7 on my car?
Edit: Found info myself. Sorry!
