Default crx fuel capacity & mpg

Hey I searched around for this one and found a couple different results. Have an 89 crx si, and I think it hold 8 gallons. I just ran on empty for a little while, and filled it all the way up and thats what it said. correct me if im wrong.

The reason im wondering is because im getting 300miles to one tank, in the city, so if its only 8 gallons in there that would be 37.5mpg, pretty good for an si.

also wondering what other ppl with crx si's are getting for gas mileage? lemme know.

yea it really depends on how u drive and your psi.

and btw u are wrong si's have 11.7 or 11.6. i usually fill mine up halfway everytime. i think factory mpg average was 29 city and like 34 highway.

ive hit 37 before, its nothing special.

really? because everytime im on empty i run on empty for a day or two, then fill all the way up. unless my fuel gauge is messed up, then my tank only holds 8-9gals at the most.

Yea, u can buy a new fuel sensor. I believe it installs right in your backseat areas. A lot of honda users here have a weird/bad one. Same as me also, complete empty shows I fill and its only about 9.5 gallons. good luck to u!

I dont think ive ever filled up fast like 9.4 and the needle is heavy on E, dipping below when i go up hills ect. With my b16 driving normal I get about 320 per tank. i have an 89 si also.

If you're asking how big your gas tank is, YOU ARE calculating your MPG incorrectly. all you find out this way is "miles per tank", which is always a guess. There is no way to be "accurate" using this method, calculating actual MPG is inaccurate enough as it is (there are soooo many variables), the least you can do is try to get more accurate numbers to work with.

Do this instead: fill the tank, set the trip meter to zero, drive, upon your next re-fueling write down the number on the trip meter, and write down the gallons of fuel that you just pumped (which is the exact amount of fuel you just burned to go XXX number of miles). Then divide the number of miles traveled by the gallons of gas pumped. This is best way to do it , also to get a better idea of your MPG measure often and get an average of all of your readings.

To clarify the issue of higher PSI in your tires , yes you can increase your MPG this way but just be aware that raising the PSI does increase your baking distance and decreases your traction in the rain. Just something to be aware of.

Keep in mind that using that method also won't be entirely accurate because it's almost impossible to fill your gas tank up to the same level each time due to different pumps, vapor pressure etc. It will be close but not exact, your best method would be to use this method and track it long term and then average your fuel economy over many tanks.

Pete,

With my needle on E I have never been able to put more than 9 gallons in my 89 Si. In theory that would mean I still have almost 3 more gallons to use up.

Glad I am not the only one seeing these results.

Not sure if 89 is different but for 91si when your tank read E, you really have 2ish gallons left. This was done on purpose supposedly to save you from running out of gas and for people who like to push their luck on the tank.

Sorry to get off subject but running around on a low tank is bad for your car anyway!!! I never drive around with less then 1/3 in my tank.

Edit: New cars do this also, when your tank light comes on, it either means you have 2 gallons left or whatever amount your manual states.

I average 41 MPG on my '90CRX DX calculated the way grog described it. Average of 10 fills with a LO of 38 (partial AC use) and a HI of 43. I've gone 400+ miles on a tank.

That's mostly highway miles going the flow of traffic IOW 70-80mph in 495 area of Wash DC.

It's lowered on some unknown springs/OEM shocks. HX rims with worn Azenis 31Psi.

2500 miles on my rebuilt, Si motor (valves, springs, seals, rings, bearings) with I/H/E, no AC, 205/50/15 Azenis... I'm getting 40 mpg if I only commute (90% hwy)!
